YOUNG CHRONICLE
Which colour is this dress?
This dress has created a huge furore over the
internet. Millions of people have been commenting
whether the dress is White and Golden in colour or
Blue and Black.
Apart from the lighting conditions, the picture was
shot in here is why the difference in opinion occurred.
The retina, a layer of tissue that lines the back of the
eye, contains millions of light-detecting cells. Some of
these cells, called cones, sense colours, like red, blue, and green. According to Duje Tadin, a scientist who studies the
brain & vision, at the University of Rochester in New York, told The New York Times that the number of blue cones a
person has may determine how well they see that colour. That basically means that if you don’t have very many blue
cones, you may see the dress as white. “If you have plenty of blue cones, you may see more blue.”
Some people have eyes that are more sensitive to different colour hues, like blue or yellow, that makes up the
background light illuminating the dress. So their brains may adjust for this by dialing down these shades of colour
while looking at the dress. Thus, changing how the person perceives the color of the dress.
A one-off white and gold version of the blue and black dress which sparked a global online debate has raised more
than £2,700 for Comic Relief. The exclusive two-tone dress attracted more than 50 bids on eBay before being
bought by Czech businessman Tomas Petru for £1,356.
The International Day of Happiness
The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March. It was established by the United Nations General
Assembly on 28 June 2012.
The General Assembly recognised that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal. So, here is a short poem dedicated to the pursuit of
happiness!
HAPPINESS
Learn to find happiness
From all things, big and small
Every moment and person
Find happiness in all
Everything happens for a reason,
Flowers blooming to a change in season
Darkness will always be followed by light
Find happiness in moments, major or slight
Seek pleasure whether alone or in a crowd
There is a silver lining in every cloud!
Spread smiles and laughter,
Joy and cheer
Because happiness stays
Every day, month and year!
