THE YOUNG CHRONICLE
Atal Bihari Vajpyee and Pt.
Malviya get Bharat Ratna
Good Governance Day!
Ex. Prime –Minister Atal Bihari Vajpyee’s birthday is a
day of great pride for the BJP. Hence the party is
observing this day as Good Governance Day. The BJP
will devote an hour to sanitation and cleanliness on this
day.
Ron and Pranks, our curious twins had heard a lot about
AB Vajpyee. Their parents remembered him as an ace
PM of India. Though Ron and Pranks hadn’t seen Mr.
Vajpyee or Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, they were
curious to know more about these Bharat Ratna
Awardees.
To them, the announcement of the award on the eve of
the 90th birthday of Mr. Vajpyee was fine, but the fact
that the award was being given to Pandit Malviya on his
153rd birth anniversary (long after his death), was
completely absurd.
The last time, the BJP made an appeal to the Congress
government, to award the Bharat Ratna to Mr. Vajpyee,
the pleas was overlooked and the award was conferred
to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and scientist C.N.R Rao.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was a freedom fighter and
and an educationist, most known for founding the
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, in 1915.
BHU is the largest residential university in Asia and one
of the largest in the world, having over 12,000 students
across arts, sciences, engineering and technology.
Malaviya was also the President of the Indian National
Congress in 1909 & 1913,1919 and 1932. He also founded
a highly influential, English-newspaper, The Leader
published from Allahabad in 1909. He was also the
Chairman of Hindustan Times from 1924 to 1946 and his
efforts resulted in the launch of the Hindi edition of
Hindustan Times, in 1936.

Modi believes that Vajpyee possessed "exceptional
governance abilities” which should be recognised and
publicized and what better a way than to do it by
celebrating Good Governance Day. This day, coincides
with Christmas, which takes the significance of having
this day, really high.
You could also be part of the good governance crusade. All
you need to do is, set up a team and reach out to your
colony’s Residence Welfare Association, and find out about
problems the society faces. As children, you could clean
your society, install dustbins even outside your colony,
plant more trees, and distribute pamphlets amongst
residents on how you think they could contribute to make
your society a better place to live.
Let’s change the world, society by society.
