Mumbai Indians Win the IPL– 8– IPL– Aditya Paul The opening ceremony of IPL-8 took place on 8th April, 2015 and on this day a match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also took place. I wanted MI to win but it lost. It lost its first four matches and I had lost hope that it will reach the playoffs, but at last with some extraordinary efforts MI reached the playoffs. MI was committed to win the cup and with they put in an amazing amount of effort to reach the final. In the final, they had to face a very strong team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This left a major unanswerable question in everyone’s mind, “Will CSK win its third title or will MI snatch the opportunity and win its second title?” After the first innings of the final, MI answered this question and showed “they had won!” and ensured a clean victory. Thus, this set another example for the saying, “When there’s a will there’s a way.” The Importance of a Fighter Jet Landing on Yamuna Expressway– By Devika Kakkar Landing an airplane on a highway is a difficult task, but many such emergency landings have already taken place in countries around the world. (due to world war II). In India though, they are still unheard of. On the 21 of May 2015, for the first time in India, Mirage2000, a fighter jet landed on the Yamuna Express Highway. It was just a trial landing and fortunately a successful one. Although, it seems easy, considering the resemblance between a runway and highway, there are many hurdles to overcome, like: houses on highways, trees, electric poles, bridges etc. Another reason why the other highways are unfit for such emergency landings is, the fact that they are not built on a level ground. Due to the above hindrances, there have been a few unsuccessful landings across the world. The most glaring examples being: 1. The forced landing of a Pan International airline flying from Hamburg, Germany to Spain, in 1971. The plane made a forced landing on the Kiel-Hamburg highway and killed 22 passengers as a result of an impact with a road bridge. 2. The emergency landing of a southern airway DC-9-31 in 1977. The airplane made an emergency landing on a section of the rural highway in Georgia and the plane met with a variety of ground obstacles like: trees, utility poles, embankments etc. 63 people in the plane and 99 on land were killed. So, even though the step taken by India is a significant one, the success rate depends on how we combat the landing obstructions.
