MARTIAN MILESTONES
NASA launched a Robot called the
Curiosity Rover. The rover, that
had initially been sent for a period
of 3 months, ended up staying on
Mars for over 11 years, thus covering 26.219 miles (42 kilometres)the first-ever Martian marathon,
beating the previous record held
by the Soviet-era Lunokhod 2
Moon Rover.
The rover was launched in January 25, 2004, and is still going
strong!
NASA's
Curiosity
rover has
found nitrogen on
the surface
of Mars, a
discovery
that adds
to evidence the
Red Planet could
once have had life on
it.
The Curiosity team has already found
evidence that other ingredients needed for life, such as water once existed
on Mars, on the Gale Crater.
