YOUNG CHRONICLE November 28th , 2014 Vishwanathan Anand Gives it Away Vishwanathan Anand has been a World Champion 5 times. But lost the world championship to Magnus Carlson this year. The chess final consisted of a maximum of 12 matches between Anand and Carlson. The winner had to get over 6 points to win. The final ended in the 11th match itself, within 45 moves. Carlson retained his previous title of the World Champion, and Anand lost this time again. Learn how to play chess through a video, on Page 6. The International Tennis Premiere League is a tournament amongst teams from 4 cities/Countries: 1) Micromax Indian Aces 2) Singapore Slammers 3) Manila Mavericks 4) UAE Royals Task: Look up all the 4 countries/cities on a m ap What is a league? Who are the Players? And how will the matches be played? Typically a match is between two people or teams. When there are more than two teams, a league tournament is held. In a league tournament, the winner is announced based on the combined results of these matches. Most often a Round Robin format is followed in the way matches are played. The ITPL will also follow a Round Robin format where on Day 1, Team 1: India, will play Team 2: Singapore; and Team 3: Manila will play Team 4: UAE. Then on Day 2: Singapore will play UAE, and India will play Manila. On Day 3: UAE will play India, and Singapore will play Manila. This way, all the teams will get to play each other.
