FLEET 2

GREAT PERFORMANCES AND COMPETITION

The recent season was a bittersweet one for competitors in Fleet 2 , whilst we saw fleet sizes and participation up along with some great performances from our Fleet 2 crews , the year will long be remembered for the passing of David Booth . He was one of RPAYC ’ s favourite sons , a good friend to many at the Club and will be sorely missed . Our thoughts and best wishes are with his family and the Pacesetter crew .

On the water , racing was very competitive all year and the silverware was split quite evenly between a number of boats . Some of the notable performances include ; John Nicholls and John Ellis on Unruffled taking out both the Wednesday Summer and the Twilight Summer Point scores and Ivor Burgess ’ Still Dangerous taking out both the Wednesday Spring series and the Dicko Cup .
Congratulations also to Richard Harris and his team on Sticky who not only took out the Spring Twilight and came second in the summer series but also mixed it up with Fleet 1 guys and won the Sydney to Newcastle race which delivered him victory in the Bluewater Pointscore PHS division in a very tight finish .
In another tight one Stephen Dadour on Solutions just held off a fast finishing Starlight in the Early Bird Series , whereas Rouge with Jeff Rice at the helm was hard to beat in the Winter series finishing with a handy margin over the fleet . Rounding out our winners was Roger Pottie and his team on Allegro in the Waterford Series and Julien Noakes on Starlight in a big fleet of 19 boats for last year ’ s Lion Island series .
On behalf of Fleet 2 , I would once again like to recognise and thank the contribution of the Club , Race Committee , Sailing Office staff and volunteers for all their efforts in facilitating the racing , and to all of our skippers and crews for embracing the spirit of fun and competitive racing .
