Debbie Newman, midwife from Medway NHS Foundation Trust, saved baby Mason’s life with her lightning response when he was born not breathing. She took home the award for ‘WOW! That’s Really Special’.
Last year baby Mason was born unable to breathe. Before his mother had the chance to look at her newborn baby boy, Debbie had already begun to take action to start his breathing. Debbie had unwrapped the umbilical cord from his body, cut it and pressed the emergency button. After a long 20 minutes he was stable enough to be moved to intensive care.
