CASE STUDY
main design device. Sunlit shades of yellow interact with accents of pink, blue and mint green, creating a vibrant yet carefully balanced palette that runs across walls, furniture and ceramic surfaces. Glossy geometric tiles establish a graphic rhythm reminiscent of Mediterranean kitchens, while striped banquettes and pastel-toned seating introduce a pop language that makes the space instantly recognisable.
Within this chromatic composition, light plays a fundamental role in shaping the atmosphere. Pendant lamps and retro-inspired fiaxtures create a sequence of luminous accents that enhance the surfaces and guide the eye toward the large portraits of the grandmother, true scenographic elements that animate the space with an affectionate and ironic presence.
The project intentionally alternates domestic references with more graphic and contemporary gestures: floral ceiling patterns dialogue with the geometry of the tiles, while decorative frames and scalloped details introduce an almost theatrical dimension. This play of contrasts— between memory and pop, intimacy and spectacle— creates a dynamic and deeply human space.
With Da Nonna, Nick Maltese Studio creates an environment that goes beyond the idea of a restaurant to become a small narrative of Mediterranean identity within the heart of the city. A place where the project celebrates the pleasure of being together and where design, as often happens in the studio’ s work, becomes a tool to transform an everyday gesture— sitting at the table— into an emotional and immersive experience.
