36 THE WORLD OF GOLFING TELFORD HOTEL & GOLF RESORT Andy is Big Cheese at Telford Pro-Am Telford Hotel & Golf Resort Professional Andy Cheese walked away with the £1,000 winner’s cheque at the recent Budgen Motors Pro-Am at Telford Hotel & Golf Resort. Lichfield-based Cheese, who is attached to the Robert Rock Golf Academy, shot a three-under-par 69 to take the professionals’ pot, while the team prize went to the fourball of Ryan Wallace, Dean Riley, Luke Bryan, and Charlie Roberts, who amassed 92 Stableford points and won an overnight stay for four at the resort, including two rounds of golf. Among the competitors on the day was former Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Northern Ireland footballer Iain Dowie. He played with Telford professional Luke Towler who finished tied fifth. Dowie played solid golf and narrowly missed out on the nearest-the-pin prize on the third hole. Telford Hotel & Golf Resort’s director of golf, Matt Robbins, said: “The pro-am was a huge success, attracting more than 100 amateur golfers. Once again we have to thank Budgen Motors’ managing director, James Martin, for his company’s support in putting up the prize money. It’s relationships such as that between Budgen Motors and Telford Hotel & Golf Resort that help to keep this sort of event alive.” WEBSITE: www.telfordhotelgolfresort.co.uk Telford Hotel’s wonderfully picturesque course measures 6,741 yards along tree- lined fairways, through open greens and over strategic water hazards. The course’s signature hole is the eighth, a 382-yard, par-four which requires the drive to be landed to perfection to miss two fairway bunkers, before negotiating a pond with a beautiful mature oak tree … all placed to make the approach shot that little bit more interesting.
