SPECTATOR FIRST AID MEDICAL VOLUNTEER STAFFING

SAMPLE STAFFING MATRIX
WHAT WORKED WELL
• A daily staffing matrix was used to schedule shifts for each of the medical stations .
• Volunteer lists provided to venue medical directors in advance , with medical degrees listed , to assist in distribution of volunteers across venues
• Medical staff wore bright colored shirts that allowed for easy visibility and identification of medical providers .
• A website housed e-learning modules that allowed volunteers to learn at their own pace . Volunteers could access each module as often as needed to gain familiarity with the material , and reference while working at the stations . The link to the on-line modules is Volunteer Materials and is located in Appendix D section of this playbook .
• Standard , evidence-based medical protocols were used for expected medical issues ( i . e . heat , stroke , injuries , etc .). These are located in the addendum section of the playbook .
• Simulation training with a mocked-up venue was used prior to the event to demonstrated venue set-up , operations , and supply storage and distribution .
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE GAMES
• Automate credentialing process as much as possible and begin issuing credentials as soon as allowed .
• Consider in-person group training prior to opening ceremonies , when most volunteers can be on site .
• Use standardized medical protocols and include as part of pre-event training . Circulate electronically to volunteers and provide easy access to protocols for reference during shift work at stations .
