The Winchelsea Star
Letter
to the
Editor
What kind of low life would break into a
country Primary School and steal sports
equipment?
What an indictment on what our society
is coming to, that now the school has to
use community raised money, earmarked
for something else (which by the way the
State Government should be providing)
just so that someone can probably shoot
the proceeds up their arm.

Did You Catch
‘Redfern Now?’
For many people the start to the current
series of “Redfern Now” (ABC Thursday
7:30) was simply awesome. Very
confronting but, compulsive viewing!
The acting from the young girl involved
through to grandmother, Nonnie
Hazelhurst, was superb. The script,
production and direction, all
done by Indigenous Australians, was
simply brilliant.
If you missed it you can catch up using
iview. Iview is an app. for tablets that
enables you to catch up on any ABC
program that you may have missed. In
fact all the TV channels have similar
applications. You can access them
through a traditional computer, or very
easily, using an iPad.
If you don’t yet have the computer
skills to be able to use iview you can
learn them through Winchelsea Senior
Citizens’ “Broadband for Seniors”
program or, for Ipads, the Surfcoast
Shire’s “Winchelsea Ipads” program.
For more information on either program

Cr Rose Hodge Elected Mayor
Councillor Rose Hodge has been unanimously elected Mayor of the Surf Coast Shire for the second time.
Cr Hodge, who also served as Mayor over
2006-2007, said it was an honour to be
elected to the position at an exciting time
for the Surf Coast.
• Ongoing development of the
Community and Civic Precinct in
Torquay North including a muchneeded Early Years Hub
“I thank the outgoing Mayor, Cr Libby
Coker, for leading Council during this
time and congratulate her on her hard
work and dedication.
“My 12 months as Mayor will be all
about inclusion and about bringing the
community with us,” Cr Hodge said.
• Completing upgrades to the Lorne
Visitor Information Centre including the
new Great Ocean Road Heritage Centre
“We will seek to continue the positive,
productive work done in the first year of
this Council’s term. I am fortunate that I
have great expertise around the Council
table and my fellow Councillors and I are
up for the challenges and opportunities
the next 12 months will bring.”
• The Surf Coast’s bid to host a training
camp for the 2015 Asia Cup.
“We have a great Council Plan and we
want to ensure people can see how we
are working to achieve it on behalf of the
community.
Cr Hodge nominated a number of priorities
for the next 12 months, including:
• Development of the Winchelsea
Structure Plan,
“We also have a number of planning
issues to look at, including the planning
panel report for Amendment C66 that will
need to be worked through diligently and
with care.”
Cr Hodge said she was proud of the way
the new Council had worked together
over the first 12 months of its term
following the 2012 election.
“We want to ensure the community feel
they can make submissions or raise issues
with Council and have the confidence that
they will be heard.
“We cannot be everything to everyone,
but we will do our best on behalf of the
community.”
