New Partners Fund Scholarships

Director of Grants and Research
Last spring , when Andrew Barr 1W8 was named the W . W . Smith Scholarship recipient for the 2016-17 school year , he certainly was not the first student to be selected for a named scholarship at Williamson . After all , the college has named eight horticulture students over the past ten years as Scott Simpson Scholars for the award established by Drs . John † and Josephine Templeton in honor of their son-in-law , a prominent horticulturalist .
Contemporaneously , over nearly two decades Williamson has named dozens of Philadelphia students as Fiske scholars for the Katherine Fiske Trust in recognition of the scholarship support the foundation has provided for financiallydeserving students from Philadelphia .
Establishing named scholarships has become a way for Williamson benefactors to see the impact of their generosity by connecting with the students their funding supports .
New Scholarship Awards at Williamson
The W . W . Smith Scholar : Williamson is truly fortunate to be included with select community colleges in the area for the pilot program of the W . W . Smith Charitable Trust which has supported charitable causes in the Philadelphia area for four decades . Until now , scholarship support from the trust was previously restricted to students attending four-year colleges . As part of a new partnership with community colleges , Williamson was awarded funding for the 2016-2017 school year from the W . W . Smith Charitable Trust . As a result , power plant technology student Andrew Barr 1W8 was named the first W . W . Smith Scholar for Williamson in the spring of 2016 . The partnership provides the opportunity for Andrew

Maguire Scholars : Shortly after the W . W . Smith Charitable Trust ’ s commitment , Williamson began another new partnership with the Maguire Foundation . The Maguire Scholars Program provides scholarship funding to students who would otherwise not be able to afford the costs of education . With a generous grant from the Maguire Foundation , Williamson named three freshmen as Maguire Scholars : Dan Killion and Joe Wasekanes , horticulture , landscaping & turf management students , along with Nick Rodriguez in the power plant program . Each of these students graduated from Maguire partner high schools , which are also funded with scholarship dollars from the foundation . Dan , Joe , and Nick will attend a celebration this spring with Maguire scholars from 26 colleges , and have a chance to hear from Mr . and Mrs . Maguire ’ s oldest son , James J . Maguire Jr . on leadership discipline and philanthropy .
C . W . & Marjorie Schrenk Scholarship : For the second year in a row , David Ruberti 1W8 , masonry , was named the C . W .† & Marjorie Schrenk Scholar funded by the Schrenk Family Foundation and named for C . W . “ Mickey ” Schrenk 4W9 † and his wife . Mr . Schrenk was a generous benefactor of Williamson for many years until his passing in 2006 . Since then , his wife and family continue to support the college through the family ’ s foundation .
Give Something Back Scholars : Finally , last fall Williamson celebrated a partnership with Give Something Back ( Give Back ) as trustee Richard Clemens matched a significant grant from the organization ’ s founder Robert Carr to help fund scholarships for 40 deserving
