Class of 1949 ,
12-24-20 Received a letter from Howard Fluck : Glad to hear from you . I trust all is well with you . I ’ m doing well , just the usual thing that come with our age group . Recent copy of The Williamsonian had several interesting articles . The work on the paper is always very well done .
Winter is here , forecast is for snow this week , it is that time ! It must be difficult for the school to operate with the health problem ( corona virus ) we have and with restrictions on activities . I was tested on two occasions for the virus and checked negative both times . Thanks for that ! There is little activity to report . I don ’ t go out much with all the cases of the virus . I hope to see you all at our next school activity . Best wishes to your good health .
1-9-21 Received a letter from Jeff Brown . The family of Walter E . Brown Jr . has been keeping a low profile over the past few months . Eldest son Jeff and his wife , Renate , journeyed from their Delaware home to South Carolina for a Thanksgiving visit with daughter Sharla and her family . Grandson Jonathan , who is a member of the South Carolina National Guard , has been on active duty helping that state with its corona virus testing . Otherwise , Jeff and Renate have stuck close to home . They ’ ve been tested for COVID-19 several times and have been negative each time .
Renate is enjoying her retirement from ILC Dover , where she made spacesuits for NASA , and Jeff is continuing his work for the Air Mobility Command Museum Foundation at Dover Air Force Base , Del . ( www . amcmuseum . org ). Jeff , who writes and edits the AMCMF ’ s newsletter also , had one of his articles published by the USAF Museum in Dayton , Ohio . Walt ’ s eldest daughter , Lauren , and her husband , Glenn , pulled up stakes and moved from Maryland to Tennessee to be closer to Lauren ’ s daughter , Jessica , and her family . Youngest daughter Lisa and her husband , Reid , who had moved to Nevada earlier , are enjoying themselves there , no longer worrying about cutting grass or shoveling snow .
Once the COVID situation is over , Jeff and Renate plan some major excursions , both here in the USA and in Europe . But time will tell … Jeff Brown , Hartly , Del . Proud son of Walt Brown .
1-12-21 Talking to Ina Ferguson under the conditions we are living finds it boring living in a retirement home where everything — entertainment , social gathering , eating in our restaurant , and socializing with our friends and neighbors , have been canceled . My son comes to my window so I go out and spend time together .
During World War II my father was located in England and I was also there and eating in restaurants . They always served more than I could eat and it ’ s the same living here now . I ’ m not a big eater . I have to order my meals by phone and they deliver it in a bag . I hate throwing all that good food away when the poor could eat it . We talked about how nice it was years ago when you hired a contractor and he told you the price and you shook hands . When he finished , you paid him . She hired a contractor not long ago for job for $ 10,000.00 with a lot of paper work involved and she had to pay $ 5,000.00 before he would start .
1-13-21 Talked to Barbara Ross : We talked about how we are all losing our memories on names of friends , stores , cities , and just about everything , what happened in DC and how our county is leaving God , how grandchildren do not read the bible or go to church . At Christmas time , Barbara always bought a live Christmas tree and left it up until near Valentine ’ s Day and then put it in the yard with decorations . It didn ’ t please her children when they were teenagers .
1-13-21 Talked to Ambrose Malenke : Approximately five months ago he had a stroke and is using a walker but still living in his house . He does have some help . Not long ago , he flew to Norway and spent time visiting interesting places . Took a cruise on a ship , went up to the Artic , but water didn ’ t freeze there because of the river that runs through .
1-13-21 Talked to Ted Moyer : He is feeling fine and is in good health ; taking his dog for daily walks and his son lives with him . Two years ago , he lost his hearing and went to doctors and with special medication was cured in just a short time .
