dents, and what life ahead of me might be. Thanks Brownie! George Foreaker, B9
8-19-17 Cooper Yearicks: Norm; Sorry we missed the picnic, we had a birthday for our youngest granddaughter. It was a frozen party and Elsa was there. Our granddaughter Mallory loved it. We missed you guys and gals.
Lois did not have her hip replaced in March, her sugar levels were too high. She just had the surgery on 8-15. She will be going to a rehab center Sunday 8-20. We will be traveling to Disney World the beginning of November with our middle aged son Joe and his wife Maria and children Braydon & Riley.
We have not been able to use our shore house in Wildwood much this year, but our children and grandchildren keep it occupied. We just renovated the bathroom taking the bathtub out and replacing it with a full-size shower with a seat and handheld shower.
I think it would be a great idea to have the picnic on a week day. I will have to stop around one of these days to pick up Lois’ blue dish. I want to say hi to all of our classmates!! Coop and Lois
Had a phone call from the Globe, Ralph Wickersham in Marmora, N. J., wanting to know what is going on. Evidently Ralph hasn’ t had the use of a computer in a year and a half, and thought it was time to check in. Nothing special going on in Marmora and I reminded Ralph about the picnic coming up, and he thought that he might attend, but with Ralph, you’ re only sure when he pulls in the driveway. I’ ll mail our newsletter to him from now on.
I have been busy with our North Penn S Gaugers model train club. Our new portable layout( 24’ x 34’) is coming along nicely. We displayed in early August at the National Association of S Gaugers Convention in Baltimore, our fifth Convention appearance. We had many complements. Carol and I had a garage sale this past weekend and made a dent with this latest purge. As kids moved out, Carol took over their bedroom closets and they were full. If you have an opinion about the picnic during the work week, please let me know and we will made a decision. President Mike Rounds and First Lady Mary Nell and Pete D’ Orazio joined the 6W4s with the latest information of what’ s new at Williamson. When I passed around the tablet for comments at the picnic, everyone was ready to leave, had to corner them.
Betty Barth: What a great time! Thanks, Norm and Carol. Your devotion to Williamson is legendary. This beautiful venue is a credit to you and WTS. For us, we are celebrating with the Williamson men and wives our 50th anniversary and we have many memories. We hope our traditions at Williamson continue to the next generation. We are proud of Williamson College of the Trades for the traditions they continue to educate young men. Vince and Betty
Eastman will write an article when Norman sends out the last minute notice. Johnny
Good weather, friends and food. Glad I made the trip, missed seeing my“ mates” from WTS, maybe next year. G. F.
That is all for now, don’ t forget to send the school a check.
Your Old Buddy, Norm B21

Greetings Classmates-
We had a beautiful day for our 6W5 class picnic up here at the Columbia County Park in Bloomsburg.( See the photo of this page). Those who were able to join us were, Fred Espenship, Dan Hengst, Gabe Waak, Joel Smiley, Bob and Lana Raybold, Jack and Joyce Wolff, Dan and Lois Norton, Rob and Edie Sharer, Marty and Jane Hetrick, Jim and Donna Kimmel, Ed and Barb Vandegrift, Mike and Deborah Noll, and my wife Marsha and myself. Rob Sharer had not seen the guys since we graduated and was struggling to match up our yearbook pictures with the aging“ mugs” before him. Again, we laughed and groaned as we realized,“ I guess we have changed.” As always, we enjoyed catching up and reliving our days together at school.
We enjoyed hoagies from our favorite pizza shop around the corner and“ grazed” through the afternoon on desserts provided by everyone … then talked about our diets! Thank you everyone for the treats and for making it a great afternoon. The only activity that was physical was a noisy game of horseshoes that included Dan Norton, Dan Hengst, Fred Espenship, Bob Raybold, with Espenship and Raybold carrying on as usual.
For those who were not able to be there, know that you were missed! I did hear from several of the guys who were not able to make it. I heard from George Tierney, Lee Wolfe, Larry Peterson, Dave Mershon, Mike Kolb, and Wayne Benovitz. Warren Speakman, who doesn’ t drive, tried to find a ride up and a bus from Philly would have been four hours. Thanks for trying, Warren. I sent the invitation to the entire class knowing it was out of reach for many. I just didn’ t want to leave anyone out. I didn’ t expect guys to come from more than a couple of hours away, although Fred did come in on the“ company plane” from Colorado.
Dan Allen called and said he was sorry, but he wouldn’ t be able to be with us. However, Marsha and I were able to meet up with Dan and Kathy at their home down in Avalon, N. J., the weekend before the picnic. They gave us a tour of their shore home that they’ ve owned for five years. Oh, my goodness, it is beautiful! It has a lower level for kids, grandkids, and guests, and a huge second floor with windows on three sides and a wraparound deck, great for entertaining or a class reunion … or whatever.
Dan is finally retired and selling the equipment and building from the machine shop he and Kathy operated for many years. They were not able to be at our picnic because they were“ doing the deal” on that same day. Dan had to be there to assure the equipment was properly disconnected and removed. Dan and Kathy are both well, enjoying good health, children, and grandchildren. They especially enjoy times together at the shore house. They will enjoy family time even more with the business off their shoulders.
Fred Espenship- Retirement is going great for

Carol and me and our health is still good. Keep busy with honeydews around the house, which I enjoy, and playing some golf. Spent one month in Tucson, Az., this past winter and will do it again next March. Good getting away from the snow and cold. Enjoyed our fifth cruise with Viking this spring, Budapest to Amsterdam. Love Viking, both river and ocean cruises. Coming up on our 50th year of marriage and will be celebrating with our kids in Kauai, Hawaii, in January 2018. Finally, expecting our first grandchild in October … so happy!
Joe Gudisauskas is well and asked me to say hello to all the guys. I talked to him on the phone as he was not able to be with us at the picnic because he was recovering from recent shoulder surgery. Joe has been retired for 10 years and other than the shoulder, is enjoying good health, and proud to say that he is still 148 lbs. with a 32 inch waste. Way to go Joe, wish I could say that. He loves working outside and can’ t wait to get back at it.
Mike Noll and wife Deborah were with us at the picnic. The day before, we were riding Fred around town showing him Bloomsburg and the surrounding areas. We drove him down to Danville to show him the Noll’ s project. I believe I mentioned it several articles ago in the Williamsonian that Mike and Deborah have been working their way through a 6-unit apartment building they own. Actually Mike’ s Dad( 3W2) built it along with several other houses on the block. They have completed the rehab on four of the units and are doing a beautiful job.
Jim Kimmel and wife Donna were there and we were all very happy to see them. You may remember in my last article I reported that Jim, in his own words was“ one sick puppy” and had a very serious case of pneumonia that only three to four percent of people survive. We praise God and are thankful that he is doing well.
At the picnic, I gave the guys homework and
handed out a questionnaire. I asked for a quick update of their contact information, as well as life at 73. Most of our classmates are retired and enjoying the fruits of their labor. We’ ve all seemed to be doing a little traveling, in and out of the country, and enjoying our children and grandchildren. If I remember correctly, several years ago we discovered Billy and Edie Messerschmidt were the first great-grand parents in our class. Maybe we have a few more by now. At the other end of that spectrum we are happy to announce that by the time you read this Fred and Carol Espenship will be new first-time grandparents. Congratulations to the Espenships, along with their son Mark and daughter-in-law Lindsay. Fred’ s pictures on Facebook of him putting a crib together were“ priceless.”
As I close and we are about to celebrate a new life coming into this world, I would ask you to pray generally for a number of our classmates who are not enjoying good health or retirement. Because of our Williamson education we have all been blessed and had a pretty good life. We are now past“ three score and ten” and are in the“ fourth quarter.” Anything else is a gift.
Over the years Bob Raybold has probably witnessed to all of you, or“ annoyed” you and you either accepted it or you didn’ t. I have asked myself, why does he care so much about those who have never chosen to give their lives to Jesus Christ? He has apologized for annoying us or offending us, but he continues, because he cares. Now, I may be the one annoying you, but like Raybold, I care.
We have lost 18 classmates out of 63 … 45 remain. And we don’ t know what lies ahead. Maybe you’ ve heard the saying,“ We’ re all going to live forever, it’ s just a matter of where.” Hope to see you at the next 6W5 reunion, here or there. Because we care and love you!
Dick
