Class Of’ 64 Holds Annual Summer Luncheon The Class of 6W4’ s annual summer luncheon at Norman Lepping’ s home had a good attendance and all had a great time. In addition to classmates and wives, special guests were President Michael and Mary Nell Rounds.
are a lot of pieces to these things so we have to be patient. He will be very happy to put it on display when it is completed.
Joe Haggerty doesn’ t want to hog the spotlight, but he did reach celebrity status by getting ten tickets to the U2 concert at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Joe and Lynn had a limo deliver them to the show and back home. Joe had an opportunity to reconnect with the stage crew he had worked with on other occasions at U2 concerts.
Ed Sebring has decided that if he can sell his property in Maryland he will move to Chatham, Cape Cod, Mass. Considering all the equipment he has accumulated by pursuing multiple hobbies and interests over his lifetime, it will be a formidable task. Can’ t wait for the yard sale.
Bob Slade has said in the past that he’ s retiring and selling his business, S & H Engineering. Since he has recently disposed of his office paraphernalia it sounds like the real thing this time. He still plans to keep busy. Hi son-in-law has just purchased a 28-foot Sea Ray cruiser. Bob has volunteered his naval skills to serve as second mate. Better than owning a boat is having someone close to you who owns one.
Wayne Swinehart checked in recently. As a result of a lot of hard work he has recovered from a fall he took a couple of years ago. He has attained most of his range of motion of the affected leg. That is quite an accomplishment since he tore four tendons in one leg. His reward is that he is able to perform all the functions necessary to keep his home looking and functioning well. His true test was that while on a trip to Ireland, he successfully climbed the 125 steps to kiss the Blarney Stone. Wayne plans to take a break from his chores and visit Williamsonburg, Va., this fall.
Scotty Oler had a scare at the end of August. He developed a brain bleed and spent a couple of days in the hospital. His recovery was hastened by daily phone calls of encouragement from Haggerty. After being discharged, he is doing rehab and should return to his original condition soon.
I caught up with Charlie Echard at his home in Georgetown, Texas, a couple of days after Hurricane Harvey hit. After asking Charlie if he was OK he said he had a boat anchored in the front yard. After he heard gasps over the phone he confessed that he was only kidding; there was no flooding where he lives. Charlie continues to teach an investment course to residents in his community. To anyone interested in organizing their investments and assets, Charlie suggested looking at Barchart. com. There is a ton of useful info there and it’ s free.
The 6W1 class world traveler, John Korab, took a trip to China in the late spring. While there he did some advertising for“ Haggerty Construction
, Engineering, and Logistics.” The proof is in a photo of John holding Joe’ s advertising banner in front of the Great Wall of China. Then, in another photo, John enlisted the help of two young ladies who are shown holding the advertising banner with the Great Wall of China descending then ascending across the countryside in the background. To you guys who text or are on our email list, you have already received a copy. To those who want a copy let me know how and where to send it. A month or so later John went on another trip to Pakistan, concentrating on touring the mountainous regions. They traveled within one mile of where Osma Bin Laden was killed and ten miles of the Afghanistan border. Having guides with automatic weapons added to the feeling of security. Next was a stop at the State of Qatar. While there, the temperature reached 122 degrees. Coincidentally, that also was the 122nd country John has visited.

Hi:
I am starting this article the day before the solar eclipse. Years ago, before houses and trees were behind me, there was an open field over which a PECO high voltage line ran which is now two streets away. One night, a fairly full moon was moving behind the tower and I was amazed at how fast it traveled. I set up my transit to check it out. You could clearly see the rough perimeter of the moon and quite a few of its craters. I had to adjust the scope every five minutes to keep up with the movement of the moon. It will be interesting to watch the event tomorrow.
4-11-17 Reds: Hi, Norm, This is too late for the Williamsonian, but just keeping you up to date in case anyone asks. I’ m battling ankle issues from arthritis in the joint, but managing to hobble around. The rest of family is fine and our granddaughter is keeping us busy watching her after school, she just turned seven on Saturday. Leaving in nine days for a Trans-Atlantic cruise on Princess to Spain, Gibraltar, and France. The cruise includes a free beverage package so I hope I get back in one piece. We’ ll be gone for over three weeks so my brother Wayne 6W1, is coming down to take care of the dog and cats. I’ ll try to be more prompt next time, keep up the good work. Reds.
Now I’ m concerned if Reds made it home in one piece?
7-10-17 George Pitonyak: Norm, Hope you

and the guys have a great picnic. I will be there in“ Spirit.” Make sure everybody takes home their containers this year. The Great Wall is on break. Have about a month to finish. Replacing the cedar shakes on my garage this summer with my master carpenter buddy, Bob. Using“ Smart Side,” the same material we used about four / five years ago to recover the rest of the house during two summers. Good picture of you and my brother Vince at Alumni Day. He and Sandy had a wonderful time, and Brother Lou! If I lived closer, I would be there every year. I feel sorry for the guys that live close by and never show up. Peace! G. P.
7-11-17 John Eastman: Hi, Norm, Never would have thought of Therm as a graphite artist, on the other hand, Boob Miller, a BIG yes. I was released from the hospital yesterday after heart surgery last week. Everything went well, but it was a bit more intense than I expected, as is my recovery. Going to take it easy for the next week or two. Looking forward to 6 August, and seeing you, Carol, and all those who show up. Later Mate, Johnny.
7-13-17 John Andrew: Once again y’ all scheduled the picnic on a Sunday and I have a conflict so won’ t be there, as usual. But glad to hear the surgery went well seabeej1. Hope you’ re able to recover fully, and get on with life. Have fun at the picnic. John Andrew( C-240-593-5305) 7-13-17 Ron Francis: Mailing address change, same location but to meet 911 emergency requirements moved to intersecting street. New address 50 Springdell Road, Coatsville, Pa., 19320.
7-29-17 Cooper Yearicks: Lois and I will not be able to make it. Our 2-year old granddaughter is having a birthday party and if I don’ t make it I am in big trouble. Tell everybody we said hi! Coop
8-02-17 Jerry Shoaf: I will be on vacation on the 6th. Anyone down the New Jersey shore is invited to stop in at 807 Stone Harbor Blvd., Cape May Court House. A warning call would be appreciated. 610-724-3534. Jerry
8-09-17 John Andrew: I appreciate the willingness to consider changing the day for the annual picnic! Mondays or Fridays should work well, I would think. As for news from me, I’ ve thrown in the towel on the flooring contractor business. I actually offered to take over, but my offer was rejected by the current owner. Just as well. Not one to just sit, not liking fishing all that much, and sucking at golf, I decided to get into the business of business coaching. Two friends started their own firm a year or so ago, and there seems to be a good fit for me to join then. Should be fun! Jane is still struggling with her Polymyalgia Rheumatica, which keeps her from doing much that involves standing or walking more than short distances. We’ re planning a trip west to see our granddaughter, who lives in Louisville. The excuse for doing the trip is to see the total solar eclipse, which is a rare event. We’ ll visit her and her fledgling Derby City Macarons business, drive south to see some friends in Knoxville, Tenn., see the eclipse with them, and spend an evening in Gatlinburg Tenn., then wend our way back casually. Were still trying to find a place to downsize to, but it’ s hard to find something that’ s just right without moving too far away. By the way, we’ d be happy to host a gathering here if y’ all want to come to the DC area. Laytonsville, Md., is a short drive and subway trip away, so might be an event worth planning. Maybe take in a Nats game? TIFN, as they say these days. John Andrew C-240-593-5305.
8-08-17 George Pitonyak: Very good Big‘ D.’ Now for what has been happening this past week. I was carried to the hospital on Monday 7-31 at 5:00 for an appendix attack, by ambulance. I was in excruciating pain, and could not walk three steps. My appendix leaked so I had a lot of damage internally. I left the hospital this Sunday and got home around 20:00, 8-06-17. So a 2- to 3-day procedure lasted about a week. G. P.
8-9-17 Darrell Sill: Been there, done that … I had my appendix removed in 1955, at 11 years old. In those days, they used ether dripping on a cloth over my nose!!! Can imagine that? Anyway, get better because after examining the“ Not so Great Wall of Harleysville”( Cruel words) on 8 / 6 / 17 at Norm’ s picnic, he had stockpiled several

tons of supplies to expand / reinforce his wall and will be ready to seriously challenge your claim to“ The best wall in the Class of 6W4.”( Imagine a plant boy building a wall with high tension cable.) Just wanted to give you a“ heads up,” even though you will be flat on you’ re a $$ for the rest of the summer. So, drink more beer, build up your wall supplies, drink more beer, go to church, drink more beer, stop chasing the wife around the house, drink more beer, rest up over the winter, drink even more beer, heal up and get ready for the spring building season. Did you ever hear such solid, thoughtful, and“ to the point” advice from anyone? Only a 6W4 could dispense such wisdom! Get well, Big D
8-9-17 Vince Barth: Hi, Norm, a picnic during the week is fine for Betty and Me. Not much going on with us during the last few months. We don’ t get too far from Sea Isle during the summer. Three of my grands now drive and are able to drop in with friends for some beach time. The younger ones get dropped off for days at a time, NO PAR- ENTS ALLOWED. Busy, but fun. Betty and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 5. Wow where did the time go? Started volunteering with Habitat in June at their ReStore. Great organization. Had a wonderful time at Norm’ s for the annual picnic. Everyone looked great. Vince B-17.
8-10-17 Ron Richardson, 5W4 class rep. Norm, Thanks for your response. This fellow Peter Nuskey stopped me two years ago in an Ace Hardware parking lot and started a conversation about WTS. He knew a lot about the school, but never told me he quit. Later in a conversation with Ed Hatchigian he looked him up and couldn’ t find any info on him. Then I read your mention of him in the current issue … that’ s the reason for my email … This is the first time that Nuskey’ s name has come up since he left during our freshman year. He told Ron that he does consulting for machine shops. Wonder if he is still wearing those motorcycle boots? Ron asked me to mentioned the annual fall 5W4 and friends Luncheon at the Shady Maple in East Earl, Pa., on Oct. 10. Shoaf and I attended last year and enjoyed the buffet and meeting WTS grad from the 50s. Put it on your list of Williamson events to attend and have a great afternoon. Lunch begins at 12:00 noon, hope to see you there.
8-13-17 John Eastman: Hi Norm, I know we all enjoyed yours and Carol’ s great food and warm hospitality at the annual picnic. The chicken was a surprise. Did they run out of ham? Regardless, it was all good!
Kaye was sorry she was unable to come because of a pesky stomach virus. We didn’ t want to get caught on the turnpike with no place to GO! My heart surgery was successful and I received all good news at my first post-op appointment at Lankaneau Hospital on Aug. 10. I’ m back to normal activities now,“ whatever that means.” We have no immediate plans for another adventure to Europe this year, but wouldn’ t rule out something in 2018 unless the whole world explodes, as it would appear from all the rhetoric and chest pounding in the news at the moment. I think we’ ll take a week and go south in the fall … staying close to the fallout shelters. The idea of a class reunion during the week sounds OK to me, at least on a trial basis. Those who prefer that better show up! So, until our next gathering, Kaye and I wish everyone a Happy land Healthy Fall, Winter, Christmas, and New Year! John and Kaye
8-18-17 George Foreaker: After your“ reunion” I received the Williamsonian and read an article about Bill Brown 6W2. Bill was my senior, I was his“ Geezer.” We all have our“ Senior Moments” at our age, I had my first“ Senior Moment” at Williamson. I never saw much of“ Brownie” during“ Geezer Period,” he didn’ t“ Bug Me.” I thought“ Out of sight, out of mind.” Toward the end of Geezer Period we had our first weekend off. I was told Brownie was looking for ME. I thought,“ here it comes.” He asked where have I been, like maybe avoiding him. I said no. He then gave me some spending money and said,“ have a good weekend.” That was my first“ Senior Moment” at Williamson, it taught me a lot about the school, the stu-
