20 year milestone for Woody Point property management gun

If you know anything about staff retention in property management , you know that it ’ s not very often you see a property manager reach 10 years - in the same role - at the same company . So reaching that long service leave milestone is a really big deal ! Let alone achieving that milestone twice , which is what Tanya Sheridan of Ray White Woody Point has just celebrated this year .
Tanya ’ s story with the Misso family business began on 10 January 2003 . She was looking to return to work after 12 years of being a stay-at-home-mum and found an advertisement for a receptionist position and thought , ‘ they ’ d be a great team to work for ’.
Growing up in a military family , Tanya is most happy when she ’ s serving others , and so when the opportunity arose for her to move into property management , she gladly jumped into it , which is where she fell in love with the diversity of the role - as no two days are the same , and she could now be in and out of the office .
Tanya said “ surviving 20 years in the ever-changing world of property management and being a part of the same office - watching the office , team and leaders grow ” has been her proudest achievement at Ray White so far .
When we asked her what her keys to success were , and what she attributed to her long-lasting career in property management , she answered : you need to have “ great communication , patience and understanding .'
“ People forget to care , and that ’ s what makes me different - I always care whether it ’ s going out of my way to help the Department of Housing house someone at risk or doing my ‘ home care visits ’ ( routine inspections ) where I am actually spending time with the tenants , not just inspecting the home for the owner . This not only fills my cup and allows me to enjoy my job but it helps me in my role as none of my tenants turn me away at the door . Instead , they tell me their doors are always open - because they know mine is too .”
We asked some of her colleagues to describe Tanya , they said she is “ tenacious , meticulous , methodical , reliable , strong , fit , healthy and fun ”.
Tanya is proud to work at Ray White . She said “ having a good team where you bounce off each other and know one another ’ s boundaries has been essential to me . I have been very fortunate to have great support from excellent industry leaders who believe in me and have provided ongoing mentoring to help me be the best I can be ."
As this is an incredible milestone , the team wanted to make an incredible deal about it and so they planned a very special event . Many of Tanya ’ s past and present clients , teammates and trades all gathered in their office and celebrated Tanya and all her accomplishments .
Damien Misso , Principal of Ray White Woody Point said ," “ Tanya has become part of our family over the last two decades and we are so blessed to have had Tanya as part of our team . My late father Tyrone was very fond of Tanya as she meant a lot to him and he implored me to make sure that Tanya is happy and looked after , as she is a gem ! He would have been so happy and proud to see her achieve this wonderful milestone with us .
" It has been so pleasing to see Tanya ’ s development and growth through the many roles she has worked in our business . Tanya started on reception , then became our maintenance manager and now she is one of the most respected and experienced Property Portfolio Managers in the Moreton Bay region .
" As a business we have had many ups and downs during Tanya ’ s tenure , and Tanya has remained loyal and committed to her customers and to our business through it all . It is no wonder that so many owners and tenants want Tanya to be their representative as they know they are getting someone who doesn ’ t quit , doesn ’ t take sickies and who is committed to getting the right outcome every time .”
Tanya ’ s advice on surviving 20 plus years in property management is to “ always stay on top of your education , particularly with legislation so you are in the best position to help your clients who need you . Thorough records will make your job as a PM much easier . Communicate always . Listen always . Don ’ t forget to care - for everyone . Be honest , stay transparent and keep smiling for tomorrow brings you another , different day . And lastly , lead with empathy ."
