BY ALEX TILBURY
Congratulations to Dennis Nutt who is celebrating 20 years as the co-owner of Ray White Epping .
On 1 September 2004 , Dennis became Co-Principal at Ray White Epping in New South Wales with Catherine Li . She was the founding partner of the business , an unbelievable agent and inspirational team leader .
“ I am proud to be her business partner . In 2023 , I will have been with the Ray White Group for 27 years , the first seven years as the chief auctioneer in New South Wales ,” Dennis said .
From 1974 to now , Dennis has called more than 35,000 auctions . Even now when he ’ s conducting their in-room auctions at Epping , he still quotes our chairman of the Ray White Group , Brian White . “ There is no finish line .”
“ Auctioneering has been my life and still is my one and only career . I have experienced and had the pleasure of offering and selling some of Australia ’ s best livestock in the early part of my career as a stock and station and livestock auctioneer , and some Australia ’ s most valuable residential and commercial real estate throughout the years of being a property auctioneer ,” Dennis said .
“ I have worked with some of Australia ’ s most experienced auctioneers , and some of the country ’ s best real estate sales executives . I have experienced auctioneering in bull runs where you could not believe that a property could achieve such a price , to sliding markets where you didn ’ t receive a single bid .
“ I have auctioned all categories in both residential and commercial real estate , calling auctions across New South Wales , Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory . My mantra is ‘ have gavel , will travel ’ and ‘ Done , Done , Done SOLD !"
His career highlight and highest-profile auction of his career with Ray White was the countdown auction for the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 . In Pitt Street Mall , outside the Sydney Olympic shop , Dennis auctioned at 1.15pm sharp every day what was known as the ‘ objet d ’ art ’ or countdown piece . He sold 500 countdown pieces , and raised just under $ 2 million for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games . SOCOG praised Ray White ’ s efforts in “ conducting the most successful countdown auction ever in the history of the Olympic movement ”.
“ It has been an awesome journey and I am certainly not done yet ," he said .
“ I would love to encourage more young people to go down the same path as I have or to enter an industry associated with auctioneering whether it be motor vehicles , goods and chattel auctioneering , plant and machinery to heritage items , and fine arts and artwork .
