HOW WILL YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A TOP-WINNING PROFESSIONAL HANDLER AFFECT YOUR DECISIONS ?
Having been a professional handler for many years , the dogs ’ physical condition will be a significant factor in my judging . However , I always considered myself a breeder foremost , so breed type and function will be important .
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE SPORT THAT ATTRACTS YOU THE MOST ?
As I said , I consider myself foremost a breeder and , as such , trying to breed a better animal with each generation that is healthy in mind and body and will make , most importantly , great companions for their future owners or me . I have bred many generations of happy , healthy Norfolk Terriers who have gone on to do a great deal of winning . Still , even more of them have become wonderful family companions over the years . Equally , I have bred Affenpinschers for many years , many of which broke dog show records , but many went onto wonderful homes as loving pets . It is very rewarding to have families come back many years later after losing one to have another to replace it because they loved them so much .
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER PEOPLE NEW TO THE SPORT ?
When I started breeding Labradors many years ago , a wise lady told me , “ Always try to buy the best , breed to the best , and hope for the best ,” and that ’ s all you can do . I will also say to persevere and not be deterred by setbacks .
