2 New Brighton Regeneration Project Underway A series of projects that aim to revitalise New Brighton’s foreshore and business centre, attract new residents and visitors, and provide better public amenity are now pushing ahead with the backing of Christchurch City Council. Development Christchurch Limited (DCL) is Christchurch’s new urban development agency, and is leading the New Brighton Regeneration Project. DCL is working with the community and the private sector to achieve positive social, economic and environmental outcomes through regeneration and development activities. DCL is working on projects in New Brighton to:  Activate the beachfront with an upgrade and expansion of the Whale Pool and playground (planned for opening in the Summer), progress the Hot Salt Water Pools development and support the rebuild of the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club. DCL is aiming to close the existing playground to the public in August to enable the construction works for the new playground to progress.  Better connect the beachfront through improved landscaping and walking routes.  Investigate the potential for residential development on Council owned land on Beresford Street.  Facilitate the revitalisation of the commercial core with current and new businesses, landowners, tenants and the community.  Create momentum through funding community-led projects and the business community to get more people to visit New Brighton. DCL has supported events such as the Duke Festival of Surfing and initiatives such as New Brighton Online. The fund is popular, and a variety of applications are currently being considered for approval.
