Though it’s a good idea to discuss with your guests what sort of meal they would prefer, keep it simple with a few options that will cut down on crumbs or unnecessary mess in the bed! For the baked goods, avoid heavy breakfasts like sticky pancakes or waffles that require a lot of cutting and smearing, and opt for a fresh-baked muffin, scone, or biscotti for dipping in coffee. Fresh seasonal fruits are always a staple and a great energy boost, particularly berries, melon, pineapple, and grapefruit. For protein, meat isn’t the only option! Offer a Greek yogurt with a small side of granola and blueberries for a make-your-own parfait. Cottage cheese and fruit, a savory cheese plate, and hard boiled eggs are other great protein-heavy options. If your guest prefers some good ole’ meat, a few crispy slices of nitrate-free bacon or sausage links are breakfast classics.

If you prefer to stick more closely to your usual menu rather than preparing something catered, a quiche or casserole is a great way to provide a delicious, filling breakfast with little mess. Check out the recipes on the next page for some yummy inspiration!

Plate Like a Pro

Once you’ve acquired the well-constructed tray of your taste and prepared a savory, memorable meal, it’s time to arrange the tray. Start with a plate that’s large enough to catch crumbs or spills, and then arrange the wide-bottom glasses and bowls to best keep the balance on the tray. Place a cloth napkin, folded or in a classy napkin ring, on the left side of the plate and the cutlery on the right. Finally, consider the special touches that will take the breakfast to the next level! Delicately arrange any meal dressings, such as pre-sliced butter, a small pot of jam, coffee cream and sweeteners. Place a small bunch of fresh flowers in an available corner, and if there’s room, include a copy of your city’s daily newspaper. With a breakfast in bed as fabulous as this, your guests will be returning year after year!
