Parks and Recreation Meet the Parks, Culture & Recreation Advisory Board The newly formed Parks, Culture & Recreation (PCR) Advisory Board has hit the ground running! The team’s current work plan focuses on assisting our Town with initiatives such as improving H.C. Nesbit Park and Town Creek Park along with downtown park planning, connectivity and advice to leadership on key areas of focus. An exciting new addition to this advisory board’s purview is…culture…with a strong emphasis on visual art that will broaden to encompass other art-forms in the future! Waxhaw has a strong and vibrant arts scene and this team will be assisting with the continued implementation of the Town’s adopted Public Y-M-C-A The YMCA and a new park are coming! We are excited to announce that in December 2015, the Town of Waxhaw officially entered into an agreement with the YMCA that will result in both a state of the art facility and adjacent park. Along with the signing of the agreement, approximately 13 acres were purchased for a Town Park that will include amenities such as athletic fields, restrooms, a shelter, green space, a pond and more. Approximately 16 acres were purchased by the YMCA to construct their facility. Union County became a partner in Art Plan, updating of our art policy and more. There are so many quality of life initiatives on the horizon and this team is an important part of making them happen. The Town of Waxhaw is fortunate to have volunteers, such as these, that are passionate about their community! The YMCA will be located on Highway 16 near Cureton Town Center with the Town Park being accessible off of Kensington Drive.
