A Visit from Nashville
Dr. Candice McQueen,
Tennessee Commissioner of
Education, visited Lakeland
Middle Preparatory School last
week.
On the Facebook page of
the Tennessee Department of
Education, the use of
technology was noted as a
highlight with a post stating,
“Wonderful visit today with
engaged students at Lakeland
Middle Preparatory School
in Lakeland School System
where technology integration
was top notch!”
World Languages Classes Explore the
Makerspace
The World Languages class have been
busy exploring Chinese culture and history.
After finishing a unit on the Lantern
Festival in China, the students created their
own Chinese lanterns complete with a
difficult riddle, fake fire made from tissue
paper, and handles for display. While some
students chose to create traditional red
lanterns, others embraced their inner artist
and went with wild color choices.
The World Languages students have also
created Chinese numbers videos in the
Makerspace, using Play-doh, their
Chromebooks, and the app Explain
Everything. Students created the Chinese
characters, wrote the Pinyin, and
demonstrated good pronunciation. The
Makerspace is a great tool for classes to
deeply explore curriculum.
