theview May 2018 lakeland middle prep .com Page 9 arlington middle LMPS Bands in Concert “Launching the Lakeland Legacy: A Spring Concert Celebration" will take place on Sunday, May 6 at 3:30pm at the LAMP inside IH Park. This performance will feature the LMPS Beginning and Concert Bands, as well as a number of exciting additional events, to include special guest performers, surprise attendees, and the world premiere of a piece commissioned especially for the LMPS Concert Band entitled “Garner Lake Portrait.” In addition to the performance, there will be food trucks at IH Park both before and after the performance for attendees to enjoy a meal. Prescott Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at Arlington Middle School held its 18th annual induction ceremony. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society recognizes students who have proven that they are exceptional not only in their academics, but also as leaders in their community, and promotes continued leadership and excellence. The author Marc Nobleman visited the students at Arlington Middle School Monday, April 2. He presented two programs for the students where he presented some information on three of his books (Brave Like My Brother, Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman, and Bill, the Boy Wonder: The Secret co-creator of Batman). Nobleman stressed the importance of doing in depth research and not giving up after rejection. He also briefly discussed the Hulu original documentary Batman and Bill, which came about due to his books. After the presentations, Mr. Nobleman had lunch with eleven student and answered questions about his books and writing as a career. Pop-Tab Palooza Beta Club Induction This Spring, LMPS participated in the 2018 Ronald McDonald's Pop- Tab Palooza and weighed in with a whopping 36.9 pounds of tabs! This event brought in a total of 3,000 pounds of pop-tabs for the charity and raised $1,410 for the Ronald McDonald House. On April, 16, 2018, new students were inducted into the National Junior Beta Club. These students have maintained a 94 average in their classes, and they display the characteristics of leadership, service, character, and achievement. Through the Dollars for Dogs Fundraiser, the LMPS Student Council raised $1646.51 for the Memphis Humane Society. Homerooms of the school competed to raise the most money for the Humane Society, which works to save animals who are mistreated, unwanted, or critically ill.
