Places at
Competition

Grand Champions over the
AMS Receives High
Honors at the Music
in the Parks Festival
The Arlington Middle
School music students and
faculty triumphed this
weekend at the Cincinnati
Music in the Parks, taking
first place in every
category. Over 200 6th
through 8th graders from
AMS performed as the
Honor Chorus, 7th Grade
Strings, 8th Grade Strings,
Jazz Band, Concert Band,
and Symphonic Band;
each group winning first
place in their division.
Mrs. Price and the 8th
Grade Strings were the
8 orchestras with the high
score of 96.3. The 7th
Grade Strings received
first place in the 2nd
Orchestra Division, and
tied the overall runner up
with a score of 95.5.
Mr. Foster and the
Symphonic Band were the
Grand Champions over the
13 bands with the high
score of 98.3. The Concert
Band received first place in
the 2nd Band Division.
The Jazz Band also
received first place in the
Jazz Division with 7th
grader Colin McCormack
receiving
the
best
individual soloist award
for his improvised solo in
St. Thomas by Sonny
Rollins.
Mr. Ivey and the Honor
Chorus faced the stiffest
competition
with
23
choirs, including three high
school
groups. Nevertheless, they
were the Choir Grand
Champions with the high
score of 97.
After competing, all the
performing groups enjoyed
a clear, sunny afternoon in
the Kings Island theme
park riding rollercoasters
The AMS STEM
Robotics Team entered
three teams in the 4th
annual
Memphis
Mindstorms competition
on Saturday, May 6. Each
Team had to present a
poster and run their robot
through
a
specified
course.
Team
Red
came
extremely
close
to
winning. They lost the
championship by only
three-tenths of a point.
This team did, however,
win
the Technology
Award
for
great
programming.
Team White’s robot
was great, but they came
up just a bit short. Team
Blue won third place
overall.
