On January 9, 2014
MicroPort Scientific
Corporation (HK: 0853)
announced the closing of the
transaction to acquire the
OrthoRecon business from
Wright Medical Group, Inc.
(NASDAQ: WMGI). The
acqui si t i o n est a bl i s hes
MicroPort Orthopedics as the
sixth largest multinational hip
and knee orthopedic
reconstruction business.

The acquisition establishes
the Arlington, TN facility as
the global headquarters for
MicroPort’s orthopedics
business, which includes U.S.
manufacturing, global
infrastructure and logistics,
operations in the top four
global orthopedic markets as
well as established hip and
knee franchise brands. With
over 700 employees globally,
MicroPort Orthopedics is
MicroPort’s largest division.

LA Fitness Receives Building Approval From Lakeland

California-based LA
Fitness recently received
approval from Lakeland’s
Design Review Commission
and Municipal Planning
Commissions for a 4.998 acre
site at the intersection of
Highway 64 and Interstate
40. Signing a development
contract with the City of
Lakeland is the next step in
bringing a new workout option
to area residents.
J. Higbee, Lakeland’s
Growth Management Director,
comments that the city is “very
excited” about the proposed
development.
“They are regarded as a
market leader in the fitness
industry. We wanted them in
Lakeland,” Higbee added.
Floor plans for the
Lakeland location include a 25
-yard lap pool, three
racquetball courts, an aerobics
room, separate cardio, circuittraining, and free weight areas,
a spinning studio, and kids
club.
LA Fitness currently has
three facilities in the Nashville
area. Higbee stated that the
company is looking to open an
additional gym elsewhere in
the Memphis area.
