Meteorologist Andrew Kozak served as the Spelling Bee pronouncer. (Also pictured: Mrs. Jones, principal of AES, and Ms Mason, ACS superintendent) Gatlinburg Relief Drive The Student Council representatives at Arlington Elementary School collected supplies to help victims of the recent Gatlinburg fires. All students were asked to bring in any donations they could to help the victims. With only a three day turnaround time, AES showed great spirit with a huge outpouring of donations. Student Council Representatives spent Thursday afternoon, sorting and boxing all the donations that will be shipped to the Red Cross to aid those that were affected by the disaster. Donelson Elementary Hour of Code December 5-11 was Computer Science Education Week. As an introduction to computer programming, Donelson students participated in the Hour of Code program offered by code.org. The students loved learning to code and were surprised at how easy it was to begin. Throughout the hour, they experienced some challenges and at times worked together to problem solve. Weather Channel Did you know Lakeland Elementary School has its own weather station? Above, students worked with Mrs. Fitzgibbon to learn how to analyze data from the station in the STEM lab. The ESL classes and the Go Green Team at Lakeland Elementary School collaborated to collect milk cartons and reuse them by creating an invention for the Made by Milk Contest. Their invention is called the World Changer because the negative words go into the bottom of the Students at Lakeland Elementary got the opportunity to expand their knowledge and horizons at the annual Health and Career Fair, pictured above. Teacher Grants Lakeland Elementary School offers special thanks to the Lakeland Education Foundation for the presentation of this year's teacher grant awards. From awards of Chromebooks to the outfitting of a sensory room for exceptional learners, the support of the LEF continues to touch nearly every student on campus.
