Community Celebrates Opening of
Lakeland Middle Preparatory School
Story and Photos by Terry Bondurant
Sunday, July 30, Lakeland
School System superintendent
Dr. Ted Horrell, the Lakeland
School System Board of Edu-
cation, and Lakeland Middle
Preparatory School principal
Matt Adler hosted a dedica-
tion, ribbon cutting, and open
house for the new Lakeland
Middle Preparatory School.
Current and former members
of the Lakeland Board of
Commissioners and the Lake-
land School System Board of
Education were on hand along
with elected and appointed
representatives from through-
out Shelby County.
After the ceremony, at-
tendees—including
many
Lakeland Prep students and
parents—had the opportunity
to tour the building and meet
the teachers and staff who
were on hand.
The $20 million, 112,000
square foot facility will wel-
come more than 600 5th
through 8th grade students for
the 2017-18 school year.
Lakeland Middle Preparatory
School joins Lakeland Ele-
mentary as the second school
in the Lakeland School Sys-
tem. With this addition, the
system will expand from a K-
5 system with approximately
940 students to a K-8 system
with an enrollment of approxi-
mately 1500 students.
The school is located just
north of the intersection of
Canada Road and Highway
70. The site is part of a 94-
acre piece of land that is slated
to hold the middle school, a
future high school, and athlet-
ic facilities.
