Arlington & Lakeland’s Community Newspaper theview .com August 2017 Community Celebrates Opening of Lakeland Middle Preparatory School Story and Photos by Terry Bondurant Sunday, July 30, Lakeland School System superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell, the Lakeland School System Board of Edu- cation, and Lakeland Middle Preparatory School principal Matt Adler hosted a dedica- tion, ribbon cutting, and open house for the new Lakeland Middle Preparatory School. Current and former members of the Lakeland Board of Commissioners and the Lake- land School System Board of Education were on hand along with elected and appointed representatives from through- out Shelby County. After the ceremony, at- tendees—including many Lakeland Prep students and parents—had the opportunity to tour the building and meet the teachers and staff who were on hand. The $20 million, 112,000 square foot facility will wel- come more than 600 5th through 8th grade students for the 2017-18 school year. Lakeland Middle Preparatory School joins Lakeland Ele- mentary as the second school in the Lakeland School Sys- tem. With this addition, the system will expand from a K- 5 system with approximately 940 students to a K-8 system with an enrollment of approxi- mately 1500 students. The school is located just north of the intersection of Canada Road and Highway 70. The site is part of a 94- acre piece of land that is slated to hold the middle school, a future high school, and athlet- ic facilities.
