Our 2018 County Primary Election
Section, presents the opportunity to meet
the candidates in selected races in the
upcoming May 1 election.
The candidates are grouped by party
and alphabetically, as that is the way that
they will appear on the ballot. As a candidate for Shelby County Mayor,
her primary focus is keeping citizens safe.
She has seen firsthand the cost of crime to
victims and families, and will commit
every resource to stopping crime before it
starts.

Candidate Statement: Joy Touliatos has
been a public servant for more than 20
years. In 2010, she became the first
woman to be elected Juvenile Court
Clerk, and was re-elected in 2014.
Joy learned the value of hard work at an
early age by washing dishes and waiting
tables in her family’s restaurant. She
worked her way through school,
graduating from the University of
Memphis.

I worked for
Shelby County Government for 10 years,
3 of them in the Chief Probation Office at
Juvenile Court and 7 in Support Services -
I know where money is being wasted and
where it can be saved by working smarter
and
more
efficiently
across
departments. My ideas are real practical
solutions to problems I experienced while
working with the County. As a taxpayer I
want to know that our tax dollars and our
resources are being used wisely. That is
how you get lower property tax rates. I
am detail oriented; I know how the
budgeting process works.

Candidate Statement: I am running for
county commissioner because I believe I
can make a positive difference in our
community.
As
your
county
commissioner I will do everything in my
power to find waste and cut spending,
continue to pay down the debt, work to
reduce crime, attract high-paying jobs and
ensure that our children have the
resources they need to succeed in school
and life.
I will listen more than I talk and I plan to
make this part-time job my full-time job.
I am not running to win, I am running to
serve.

Candidate Statement: I'm a Bartlett-born
candidate with the most business
experience. I've managed multi-million
dollar budgets for Fortune 500 companies,
including The Home Depot. I've
successfully kept a watchful eye on ROI
for over 15 years. I'm accustomed to
reaching goals in the face of adversity,
with
tight
deadlines
and
few
resources. I've spent the past several
years in the Bartlett community with the
Chamber of Commerce, Cop Stop, and
serve on the Beer Board. I want to support
our efforts to give our children the best
public education available, in a safe
community where business and industry
can thrive.
