THE ROAD TO STATE
Arlington Tigers Boys Basketball Season Full of Great Moments
By Brett Brewer
When C.J. Anderson’s
shot hit the back rim at the
final horn, Arlington was one
bucket from advancing to the
state finals. The Tigers lost a
hard fought contest to Oak
Ridge 57-to-56. While the
outcome had the Tigers on
the short end, what a
wonderful journey for the
Arlington basketball
program.
Coach Don Deaton’s
squad finished with a
sparkling 29-5 record.
Included in this historical run,
included the Tigers going
undefeated, 10-0, in district
play.
The Tigers captured the
Regional
7 AAA
Championship with wins
over Hardin County,
Munford, and Dyer County.
The one obstacle to a birth
in the TSSAA State
championships was a
rematch with national power
White Station High School.
The two schools met twice in
the regular season, with the
Spartans winning both
contests. Hoping that the
3rd time is a charm, the
Tigers played their best game
of the season. In a sold out,
frenzied Arlington gym, the
Tigers shocked the Spartans
70-to-65.
In the school’s first playoff
opportunity, the Tigers drew

Murfreesboro. With a record
of 33-1, and a hometown
crowd, the tigers would have
their hands full. The game
did not disappoint. In a
highly entertaining contest,
Arlington let a 7 point lead
dissipate in the final 23
seconds to go to
Overtime. There was no
panic, as the squad regrouped
and led by Mr. Basketball
runner-up C.J. Anderson’s 27
point performance, found a

Lady Tigers Finish Strong
By Madison Pendergrass and Coach David Offerle
The Arlington Lady Tigers
had an outstanding season.
The Lady Tigers started the
season slowly, but with a lot
of hard work and determination, the Varsity Lady Tigers
team did not lose a game
from December 28th to February 18th.
The Lady Tigers were
named regular season district
champions going 10-0 and
had an overall record of 22-7.
They advanced to the District
14AAA Tournament where
they finished Runner-Up.
This accomplishment placed

Tigers to the semifinal
round .
Oak Ridge was the
opponent for the semi-final
contest. The Tigers were
sluggish in the first half, with
second half saw both teams
battle for the lead. The seesaw affair came down to the
final minute, with an Oak
Ridge made free throw being

outcome 57 to 56.

7AAA Tournament where
their season came to an end in
a hard fought game against
the Hardin County Tigers.
Tori Sewell and Raylin
Starks were named to the AllTournament District 14AAA
Team and All-Tournament
Region 7AAA Team.
The JV Lady Tigers team
also had a great season. They
won the ECS Christmas
Classic Tournament finishing
their season with a 17-0 record.

Arlington was led by hot
shooting Guard Cody
Hailstock with 20 points,
while K.J. Bates scored 16 in
the finale.
While the Tigers fell short
of their goal of a state title,
Coach Don Deaton and his
coaching staff enjoyed the
most successful season in
school history.
Six special seniors bid
farewell on Friday. These
fine young men made a
tremendous contribution both
on and off the court. C.J.
Anderson, K.J. Bates, Cody
Hailstock, Pete Canady,
Karson Holmes, and Dexter
Allen will never wear the
Blue and Gold again, but
their legacy will remain for
years to come.
There was outstanding
school spirit that contributed
to the atmosphere during ball
games.
The
Tiger
cheerleaders worked hard
each game to get fans
involved. The Arlington
student section, affectionately
known as the Blue Crew,
made it tough on opponents
with their enthusiasm.
The 2013-14 seasons was
a magical year and an
enjoyable journey. Thank
you Tigers and Tiger nation
for your great efforts!!!
