She made oozing, bubbling fog and giant bubbles! The students learned about matter and new vocabulary terms like sublimation. Makin’ Music with The Boss On February 27th, Lakeland Superintendent Dr. Horrell visited the Lakeland Guitar Club (below). The students performed three songs for him. Then Dr. Horrell gave a presentation to the stud ents o n songwriting and playing the guitar. He performed a few of his original compositions for the class and answered questions. It was an exciting experience for them. He plans to return for a songwriting workshop. LES Principal Crouch Announces Retirement Special to THE VIEW 38002 Elementary School principal Marcia Crouch announced to her faculty and staff on March 24 that she will retire from Shelby County Schools at the end of the 2013-14 school year after a 32-year career. Crouch is a proud graduate of Shelby County Schools and grew up in Germantown where she graduated from Germantown High School. She spent several years as a regular classroom teacher before moving into administration. She was an assistant principal at Houston Middle before becoming principal there. She was principal of Crump Elementary for five years and Southwind Middle for 13 years before coming to Lakeland Elementary in 2009. Under Crouch’s leadership, Lakeland Elementary was named to the list of 2013 Tennessee Reward Schools which recognized schools ranking in the state’s top five percent for overall achievement. Crouch will continue to advise the Lakeland School System leadership during the transition to the new municipal system over the course of the next few months. Crouch has offered to work closely with her successor to ensure that the transition is a smooth one. A posting for a Lakeland School System Elementary/ Middle school principal position was on the district’s website on March 25.
