Lupita Vital receives award
at Instituto Hispano

Lupita Vital, Director of the Hispanic Apostolate for the Diocese of San
Jose, was honored recently with the Fr.
Allan Figuroa Deck, S.J. Award by Instituto Hispano, an intensive program
for Catholic leaders, taught in Spanish,
which provides theological education
for Hispanic Americans.
Father Deck is a Jesuit theologian and
founder of the Instituto Hispano, who
has been active in Hispanic ministry,
authored books, and is a nationally
known speaker.
This is the second year the Instituto
has given the award.
Current Director of the Instituto is
Sister Teresa Montes Lara, OP who said,
“Lupita is being recognized as a pioneer
in the pursuit of academic formation.
She attended the Instituto Hispano in
Berkeley but she had already achieved
academic formation in Mexico. Her
desire to continue studying was a testimony to her tenacity, courage, personal
development, discipline and dignity.”
Sister Teresa, in presenting the
award, noted Vital’s achievements:
