136 Questions…are you prepared?
By Kathy Fanger
Parish outreach Coordinator
This Sunday’s first reading proclaims:
“On this mountain the Lord of hosts will
provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and
choice wines. He will destroy death forever.
The Lord God will wipe away the tears from
every face.” Isaiah 25: 6-8
Embracing End of Life with Faith
When we are so confident in the
Lord’s promise to us of eternal life, then
what a gift - a legacy - it is to our family to make a final statement of faith by
planning our funeral, paying for it, and
documenting our wishes for Catholic
funeral services, perhaps even the songs
and scripture readings.
Are you aware that there are over 136
questions to answer when a person
dies?
At the time of death, our own - or that
of our parents or loved ones, if funeral
details have not been discussed, documented and planned for, then we, or our
loved ones, face the anxiety of countless
decisions and expenses to face alone or
to be agreed upon. All this stress can pull
us, and the people we love, from focusing
on the fuller picture – gratitude to God
for a life well-lived, now being welcomed
into Heaven, and the promise of one day
being reunited.
Why not gift your family by having
all your plans and documents in place
now, while you able to restfully make
decisions and communicate them clearly.
Why choose a Catholic Cemetery?
Catholic Cemeteries provide sacred
burial grounds among fellow believers
in the resurrection. It is a natural choice
having lived one’s life journey in faith
through the sacraments of Baptism,
Eucharist, Confirmation and often Matrimony and Anointing of the Sick. Our
loved ones and others who share our
faith are able to visit, pray, and be reminded that one day we will be together
again. Monthly memorial masses and
special masses throughout the year help
to gather the community in prayer and
remembrance of their loved ones.
Who can be buried in a Catholic
Cemetery?
*Catholics and their immediate family members, regardless of their faith or
denomination.
*Christians –in the spirit of Christian
unity, those members of other Christian
churches for whom we share a common
understanding of baptism and with the
approval of their pastor or minister.
*Persons who have previously obtained burial rights.
*Persons with a demonstrable connection to the Catholic community (ie.
attended Catholic school, employee of
the Church).
Our Catholic Cemeteries staff is
available to meet with you at no charge
to listen to your wishes, describe burial
options, and provide a tour. We will
explain pricing, no interest payment
