Archbishop Mitty’s LIFE Team Supports Performing Arts in Powerful Musical Viewing Night
By Nickhil Tekwani ’18
Last month, Archbishop Mitty High
School’s LIFE Team gathered to watch
the Performing Arts Department’s ren-
dition of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” a rock
opera written in the late 20th century.
LIFE Team came together to support
the Performing Arts Department and
to further their faith and community
as they watched the theological musical
about the Paschal Mystery.
LIFE (Living in Faith Experience)
Team is a Campus Ministry group
comprised of AMHS seniors, who
serve as the Campus Ministry stu-
dent leadership for the school. These
students assist with liturgies, retreats,
and all the programs that run under
the Campus Ministry Department.
LIFE Team also holds occasional
special events, like the “Jesus Christ
Superstar” viewing night, to bond
and build faith. This is the fi rst time
that Campus Ministry has specifi cally
reserved seats for the LIFE Team to
watch an AMHS production.
“Campus Ministry decided to at-
tend “Jesus Christ Superstar” for three
important reasons: 1) to make visible
God’s love for us, 2) to support the
Performing Arts Department (many of
whom are on LIFE Team), and 3) to have
our LIFE Team spend time together and
continue to grow closer together as a
community,” said Mr. Tim Wesmiller,
Director of Campus Ministry.
The viewing night for this musi-
cal certainly made God visible to the
students in the audience. Students
commented that the intensity of the act-
ing brought out aspects of the Paschal
Mystery that they previously did not
comprehend. It allowed them to see
the power of theater: that real-life act-
ing can bring out more of a story than
words alone.
Finally, one of LIFE Team’s key goals
is to come together as a community,
and the group is always looking for
more ways to bond as friends and class-
mates. Senior Belana Labra outlined
the success of this event, in that regard.
“I love spending time with members
of LIFE Team, and tonight was no dif-
ferent,” Belana said. “It’s not every day
that you get to spend time with – as
well as support – close friends. I truly
appreciate Cam
