ADA Exceeds 2015 Goal; Still Time to Contribute
By Liz Sullivan
The fi nal numbers are still being
counted, but there is no denying this
has been a good year for the Annual
Diocesan Appeal (ADA) in the Diocese
of San Jose.
And there is still time to contribute.
According to Bill Matthews, Director of Stewardship and Development
for the Diocese, as of early May, more
than $7.3 million had been raised and
Matthews expects that number to
increase by another $400,000-500,000.
That greatly exceeds the goal of $5.8
million set by the Diocese when the
campaign began the end of January.
Matthews said by the time the final
numbers have been counted 52 of the
Diocese 54 parishes will have exceeded
their goals, which means they get to
keep the additional money raised.
“I think people are starting to realize how important the ADA is,” said
Matthews. “I am excited to see the support. The fact that we will have more
than $2 million dollars going back to
the churches is good because it does so
much good for the community.”
The ADA campaign lasts 6-weeks
and runs until Easter. However, the
collection of money continues well into
the fall/winter months. Matthews said
his office will be sending out another
mailing to parishioners in the Diocese’s
54 parishes in early June. The hope is
to get additional people who might not
have been able to contribute the first
time around.
“People’s circumstances might have
changed,” said Matthews. “We continue to want people to see how vital
the ADA is to their parish.”
Tim Nondorf is the ADA Steering
Committee Chairperson and he point-
ed out the value of ADA to the parishes.
“The ADA allows the Diocese to
support so many programs, like RCIA
and ILM,” said Nondorf, a member
of St. Catherine of Morgan Hill. “The
support and the training come from
ADA. It is a commitment of each of the
parishes.”
