Rosary with Young Adults

By Matilda Bernard
On February 3 , the young adults of Saint Martin of Tours Parish sponsored the Rosary Potluck which was attended by more than 25 individuals from the diocese . One of the young adults graciously hosted the event at his home in Sunnyvale .
It was a beautiful experience , as we all gathered together and lifted up our intentions to the Lord , surrendered ourselves to him and prayed the Rosary . This was followed by a potluck barbeque while enjoying fellowship with young adults from different parishes .
The Holy Rosary is an enormous source of grace and spiritual protection , one of the most powerful sacramentals of the Catholic Church . Sister Lucia dos Santos , one of the children to whom Our Lady appeared at Fatima , once said ,
“ There is no problem , no matter how difficult it is , whether temporal or above all spiritual , in the personal life of each one of us , of our families … that cannot be solved by the Rosary . There is no problem , I tell you , no matter how difficult it is , that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary .”

Saint Lucy School “ Walks ” Make History Come Alive

Fourth , fifth and sixth grade students at Saint Lucy School recently stepped back in time and immersed themselves in interactive history presentations . Under the guidance of their teachers as well as talented facilitators from California Weekly Explorer , students experienced interactive “ walkthrough ” presentations about various eras that not only focused on history , geography , and culture , but also offered opportunities in drama , public speaking and teamwork .
The fourth grade class experienced a “ Walk Through California History .” Dressed as Native Americans , miners ,
missionaries , cowboys , the costumed students arrived as “ experts ” on a historical figure or term related to California ’ s history or topography . Divided into four teams , the students earned points for their respective teams as they participated in a variety activities .
The fifth grade class jumped back to the latter half of the 1700 ’ s and focused on the American Revolution . This time , the class was divided into three teams : the Blue Rebels , the Red Coats , and the White Tories . Mock battles were staged , short speeches were given , and important American history was shared by and imparted
upon the students . Parents in the audience seemed especially impressed by the class ’ public speaking abilities , accurate costumes , and dramatic finesse during the presentations .
Donning the garb of pharaohs , slaves , senators , plebeians , mythical heroes or those of war , the sixth graders focused on the ancient world . They focused on how the Egyptian , Greek and Roman societies evolved through time . Whenever students become active participants in the learning process , not only do they have fun but they also retain the content on a far deeper level .
