Along with other groups supported by Amigos for Christ, a recent government study has shown that the incidence of diarrhea has been cut in half as a result of the work by Amigos for Christ, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health, and other NGOs. Moreover, this year, Holy Spirit Parish raised nearly $3,000 to purchase a year’s supply of anti-parasite medicine for the Amigos for Christ health program. tion founded in 1999. It has grown from a small youth group to one that includes thousands of volunteers who are engineers, doctors, nurses, students, moms and dads. By Bill Roth Holy Spirit Catholic Church, San Jose, recently completed its fifth mission trip to rural northwestern Nicaragua, done in concert with Amigos for Christ, a Georgia-based Non-Governmental Organization. this year’s trip. “They truly put their faith into action.” This year’s contingent from Holy Spirit Parish was the largest ever, with 80 missionaries from the Almaden area of San Jose. There was substantial participation by youth with 50 percent of the missionaries 21 years old or younger. Missionaries focused on key health and sanitation issues faced by the people of the Chinandega region of Nicaragua. As many as 80 percent of children are plagued by intestinal parasites, and the occurrence of diarrhea, an all too frequent cause of death, is common.
DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING
The Director of Assessment and Planning is primarily responsible to provide leadership in educational assessment practices and to facilitate data collection, data management and data analysis for the purposes of informing and directing instructional practices in the classroom, at grade level, for specific subjects, and across the Diocese, as well as professional development and training for school teaching staff and administrators. Education and/or Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching, education, psychology, research and statistics, or related degree.
