Richard ( Dick ) Julian Holdsworth ( A , 59-63 ); died 29.9.2020 . Half-brother of MBH and DAH . Editor Wykehamist , German Speech ; Freeston Scholar , University College Oxford , 2 Mod Lang , BA 1968 , MA . Journalist 1968- 74 , with Financial World , Reuters in Hamburg , Halifax Evening Courier , The Guardian , Deutsche Presse-Agentur ; LSE , MSc ( Econ ) International Relations 1975 , Gladstone Memorial Prize 1975 . Official in the Secretariat- General of the European Parliament , Luxemburg 1977-2007 and , among other roles , helped set up and the run the Scientific & Technological Options Assessment ( STOA ) unit . A natural linguist and devoted pro- European all his life , this was more than just a job , it was a profound commitment . PhD Exeter University 2010 in Philosophy , a subject that had always been close to his heart , and his crowning glory . He moved from Luxemburg to Germany in 2012 . A lover of Sussex and the South Downs , languages , books , poetry and a quester after truth ; a lover of life , and all the good things it had to offer : when he was diagnosed with Parkinson ’ s , his defiant optimism kept him alive for more years than might have been expected . Married ( 1 ) Dorothy Lawley in 1981 ( marriage dissolved 1992 ); ( 2 ) Elizabeth Heck in 1999 , who survives him together with two daughters from his first marriage and two stepdaughters and a stepson .
John Arthur Ralph Westropp ( D , 63-67 ); died 20.3.2020 . Winner of the Colonel ’ s Spoon 1966 ; Nottingham University 1968-71 , 2 ( i ) Russian BA . He was with the same company throughout his working life from 1971-2009 as a freight forwarder : Lep Transport , Lep International , GeoLogistics , Agility Logistics . He retrained as a teaching assistant in 2011 and then worked as a volunteer at Highfield Infant and Junior Schools , helping in the library sessions with the children and setting up a chess club : he so enjoyed working with young people and relished their company . Beaver Scout Leader since 1990 , Medal of Merit 2008 . He was deputy church warden for 3 years followed by being church warden from 2001-2004 . Until mobility problems struck in 2005 , he enjoyed walking holidays and skiing but thereafter he was still able to cycle and was an avid follower of the Tour de France . Married Marion Summers in 1974 , who survives him together with one son ; another son died in 2011 .

Married Barbara Ward in 1980 , who survives him together with their son and daughter .
William Charles Russell-Sealey ( A , 65-68 ); died 22.5.2020 . Son of EJRS ( Music Master , 29-63 ). Head Chorister . Soccer XI , Jun Javelin . Accident underwriter , Sun Alliance & London Insurance 1969-76 ; King Alfred ’ s College , Winchester 1976-9 , BEd , Music , 1978 . Private piano and guitar teacher since 1979 , at Twyford School for 32 years and also at Win Coll . Hampshire Premier League Cricket 1987 . He is remembered for long rides on a variety of racing bikes , his kindness and enthusiasm , his bright ( almost outrageous ) waistcoats , leather jackets , wild hair and big smile . Keen golfer , squash and rackets player . Married Shelagh Heard in 1980 ; his partner for the last 25 years was Sue Jesshope . Both survive him , together with his son .
Hon John William Blackstock Butterworth ( C , 66-70 ); died 16.12.2019 . New College Oxford , MA Physiology and Psychology 1974 . In 1975 he joined Kleinwort Benson , where he spent 17 years including spells at HM Treasury and in New York . He moved to Henry Ansbacher 1992-95 , followed by Nomura / Terra Firma 1997-2002 . A skilful financier and incredibly hard worker , he used his mind to attack a deal . Founded the Pilot Light charity , which links up leaders from the commercial world to advise charity board members and has now helped over 800 charities . Loved driving his MGB and Jaguar and walking in the Cotswolds and Yorkshire , as well as at his beach house in Bridlington , with Rick the beloved golden retriever . A keen gardener and an art-lover enthralled by the work of David Hockney . In 2011 he had two massive brain haemorrhages which meant he was hospitalised for 14 months and he was left wheelchair-bound . He never complained and decided that life was for living and continued to travel
