The 1s ’ promotion battle for a spot in the Premier Division had been cut short by lockdown , just before its climax in March , but we were the beneficiaries of last season ’ s campaign being resolved by a points-per-game calculation , and we thus ended up in a promotion spot in Division 1 for 2020 / 2021 . Promotion by administrative decree – it ’ s what the glory of the game is all about !
The 1s have won three from five so far , a solid showing , with a 9-1 win over Old Harrovians a particular highlight . James Essex ’ s ( I , 06-11 ) six goals in that game has him on 11 goals for the season already , the club ’ s highest ever goalscorer ( since records began ) with 115 goals in 129 games .
Like the 1s , the 2s feature players from across the last few decades , including club stalwart Al Hardiman ( C , 95-00 ), playing his 20th season for the club , to newcomers such as Tom Hewitson ( K , 15-20 ) and Freddie Byers ( I , 15-20 ). The 2s have three wins from six , and sit 2nd in the Division 5 table , hoping for a promotion race come spring .

Obiter dicta Bowel Cancer awareness Tim Morgan ( A , 84-89 ) died far too early ( Obit TS129 ). He was an inspiration to everyone and raised £ 300,000 for cancer research by taking part in an arduous 90-mile Dartmoor Demon cycle ride whilst undergoing immunotherapy treatment ( having previously undergone two massive surgical operations ). He became a legend at the Marsden Hospital , surviving traumatic trials longer than could have been believed , because of his positive , selfless and determined attitude , contributions and undertakings . At the end of five years , the entire team of 17 consultants and their staff gathered at his bedside to say goodbye and to thank him for his inspirational input .
There is an online film which was made during the cycle ride to help raise awareness of bowel cancer in young men . It features a number of OWs on his team , including Alex Payne ( A , 84-89 ), Dom Herbert ( D , 84- 89 ) and Tomaso Cremonesi ( A , 87-89 ). If watching this film saved one life from Tim ’ s fate , it would be worth it .
