David Alan Cary Lipscomb ( D , 48-53 ); died 28.4.2020 . Brother of PWL and JRPL and from a longstanding Wykehamist family dating from mid-18 th -century Aulae Prae , Christopher Lipscomb . National Service 1953-5 , Lt RNR ; Sidney Sussex College Cambridge , 3 Econ , BA 1958 , Boat Club captain 1957-8 and stroked his college 1 st VIII for each of his three years . His early career was with Tube Investments , based in Birmingham . He later set up an export company , selling stadium seating and tubular steel furniture around the world , concentrating on the Middle East . He was subsequently involved in a range of business ventures from a revolutionary wheelbarrow design to art insurance . Chairman of Governors , Arnold House School , St John ’ s Wood 1985-95 ; National Council member , Macmillan Cancer Support . A keen yachtsman , he owned his own Folkboat which he sailed on the south coast . He also loved the Worcestershire countryside where he chaired his local shoot for many years . A strong supporter of the local community and a loyal member of the OW West Country group . Married Patricia Shirley-Priest in 1978 , who survives him together with a stepson and stepdaughter .
Timothy Edward Burrow Hill ( H , 49-53 ); died 14.7.2020 . Nephew of JSBH and MVBH . Co Prae ; Coldstream Guards 1954-6 ; Magdalene College Cambridge 1956- 9 , Agriculture , MA ; Master of Trinity Foot Beagles 1958-9 . Farmer from 1961 . Cotswold District Councillor 1973-95 , and on the councils of the local Moreton Agricultural Show and the Three Counties Show . Very much a boy of the Cotswolds , he was happiest when pottering about in his kitchen garden . He hosted a rough shoot on his farm for years - often referred to as ‘ Hunt a Pheasant ’ - with local friends . He was never happier than at Loch Avich walking and fishing , and his latest hobby was National Hunt Racing . A deeply religious man , he was church warden for many years . Married Felicity Judge in 1963 , who died in 2017 , and is survived by their two daughters .
Robin Francis William Towsey ( H , 49-53 ); died 4.7.2020 . Cousin of N Warrack and AGW . Lords ; 1953- 54 RMAS and carried the colours at the passing-out parade ; cricket XI as a wily left-arm spin bowler ; West Yorkshire Regiment . Sales and marketing appointments , including Birds Eye Foods and ICL ; he later founded his own company selling catering equipment to the food trade . He needed to follow his star which was inventions and he never really gave up hope that one of his ideas would take off . Known for his humour and youthful optimism : apparently , he once stopped traffic on the M25 so that everyone would observe the 2-minutes silence ; and he would cook BBQs in the pouring rain under a huge umbrella - nothing would deter him . He hugely enjoyed his adopted family , the countryside and animals . A gentleman to the end . Married Mary Prideaux in 1978 ( marriage dissolved 2000 ), who survives him with his daughter and two stepdaughters .
William Jeremy Wakeley ( C , 49-50 ); died 25.6.2020 . Brother of RMW . Moved to Radley College after 1 year . Managed family farming business , Wakeley Brothers ( Rainham , Kent ). JP for Kent . Married Veronica Dunning Aysh in 1959 , who died in 2016 , and is survived by their two sons and a daughter .
Richard Hugh Lyon Armitage ( I , 50-55 ); died 25.03.2020 . Brother of RJA . Clare College Cambridge 1957-60 , 2 ( ii ) Hist , BA , under the inspirational supervision of the Master , Sir Geoffrey Elton , college hockey XI , 2nd VI tennis , MA . Assistant master , Manchester Grammar School 1960 , followed by Twyford School , Winchester 1962 and Cothill House , Abingdon 1964 . Headmaster , Lochinver House School 1971-89 , their longest ever headship , where he developed many new academic and sports facilities and established the pupil-centred ethos that characterises the school . His first act on taking up his post was to gather up and destroy all the canes . Headmaster , King ’ s House School , Richmond 1991-8 . On retirement , Sara and he bought a house with a huge derelict garden at the foot of the Malverns , with his beloved hillwalking available outside the gate . There they created a spectacular garden that they would open to the public . He also supported many local projects , notably the Parish Hall , and became a devoted patron of local artists and arts organisations . Married ( 1 ) Susan Haworth in 1960 ; ( 2 ) Sara Whitelaw in 1992 , who both survive him , together with two sons and a daughter from his first marriage .
