offering career advice. However, those who do are a statistically small sample. It is increasingly important for the school to demonstrate where OWs are making an impact across the world, as you are our greatest assets. We hope to reach a very broad spectrum of career paths while expanding our data, so please do not think what you do should not be recorded. Just taking the careers represented by the OW News pages above we have lawyers, soldiers, poets, film directors, musicians, authors, engineers, academics, pilots, bankers, scientists, teachers, doctors among our ranks.
Please help us to showcase the wide range of OW careers. Here is what to do:

Some Recent Win Coll Soc Events
From Stephens to Stagg – Wykeham Patrons in India 2025
Wykeham Patrons have been travelling the world for over 15 years on trips‘ In the footsteps of’ prominent Old Wykehamists. The November 2025 Patrons’ Trip to India had no shortage of OWs to follow but in the end took its title From Stephens to Stagg from the first Englishman in India( see Primus in Indis, TS 140) and for alliterative purposes, from one of the two recent OW High Commissioners to India, Sir Richard Stagg( Warden). Among other OWs who rose to prominence in India, and particularly in Bengal, were the Vansittart family: in the 18 th century, Henry Vansittart was appointed Governor of Bengal to succeed Robert Clive, on Clive’ s recommendation; one of Henry’ s direct descendants was Horace Jackson( C, 1898-03; CoRo, 08- 47 HoDo B, 21-45).
While in Delhi, the group also studied the work of Herbert Baker, the more professional of the two architects appointed to design the major buildings of New Delhi in the early 20 th century. Before work in Delhi restarted post First World
MV Raj Mahal
War, Baker designed Win Coll’ s own War Cloister, as well as being appointed one of the three Principal Architects to the Imperial War Graves Commission.
The group met in Delhi in early November where they enjoyed the hospitality of the current British High Commissioner and were entertained by the generous family of a current Hopperite. From Delhi, they travelled to Kolkata, where a highlight was the faithful recreation of an Old Wykehamist dinner held in 1892. Although the oldest OW Dinner in India took place in 1887, the oldest surviving menu dates from 1892. The team at The Glenburn
Penthouse in Kolkata produced a delicious eight-course dinner and menu cards that included the words of Domum on the reverse. If only the singing had matched the standard of cooking.
After two nights in Kolkata, the group boarded their boat, on board which they stayed for a week while it cruised up the Hooghly River. To do justice to the places they were able to visit would fill several pages. Suffice it to say that West Bengal was a fascinating region to explore and travelling by boat gave access to places, such as the battlefield of Plassey, that are off the normally-beaten track.
We look forward to our next Patrons’ Trip – to Spain in the footsteps of John Colborne. The provisional plan is to be based in Salamanca from 15 th to 20 th May 2027. If you would like to know more, please contact Win Coll Soc( details overleaf).
