Anthony Robert Edmund Pretor- Pinney( A, 43-47); died 23.3.2026. Special Entry RN 1947; Sub-Lt RNC Greenwich, 1950; Lt 1952; retired 1954. RAC Cirencester 1956, MRAC. He then farmed at Somerton, Somerset where his family had been landowners since the 1800s. He married Laura Haight in 1963, who survives him together with their 2 sons and a daughter.
Richard( Bill) Ormerod Sutton( K, 44-47); died 25.3.2026. VI, Boxing Colours, Athletics team, Jun ½ mile and hurdles. Honours in Solicitors’ Final 1952. RASC 1952-4, Lt; RASC and Aldershot Services at Rugby; Swansea and Fylde RC 1st teams; final, Army officers light-heavyweight boxing competition 1953. Solicitor, partner with Blackhurst Parker & Yates, Blackpool, Lytham, Preston and Lancaster, 1958-99. In retirement, he played bridge and enjoyed watching sport, especially Fylde rugby, England rugby and cricket; member MCC. He married( 1) Sally Peskett in 1956 and( 2) Jill Blackhurst in 1967, who died in 2021, and he is survived by his 3 daughters and 2 sons together with 2 stepsons from the second marriage.
Professor Nigel Jeremy Murray-Brown( K, 45-50); died 27.10.2025. VI 1949- 50, Duberly Prize. Prize for Leadership, Eaton Hall OCTU; 2 Lt KRRC 1951. Exhibitioner New College Oxford 1952, 1 Mod Hist 1955, MA 1963. As a television journalist, he travelled to dozens of countries for the BBC, once getting tossed into a Paris prison by jittery gendarmes the day Charles de Gaulle returned to France and another time hitching a ride to his Moscow hotel on the back of a Soviet tank on May Day. Professor of television studies, Boston University, 1982: he was a dedicated teacher, known for his keen interest in his students’ ideas and aspirations, his probing intellect, and his gift for sharing the power of nonfiction storytelling through film. Author of The
Monarchy and its Future 1969, Kenyatta 1972, Faith and the Flag 1977, Portraits of Power 1979, This War Called Peace 1984. He married( 1) Joan Peel in 1958, marriage dissolved 1978, and( 2) Lucy Lisle in 1979, who survives him together with 2 sons and a daughter from the first marriage and 3 stepchildren.
Caird Carson Biggar( H, 46-51); died 10.6.2024. Co Prae, VI; Trinity College Cambridge 1951, 2 Math pt 1 1952, 2 Econ pt 2 1954. RAF 1954-6, F / O. Boots Co plc 1956-92, Head of Management Services, and director of Boots the Chemists. He married Susan Elliott in 1959.
Peter Gordon Hiam Wilson( A, 47-52); died 7.9.2025. Brother of JJHW. RNC Dartmouth 1952, bringing Emperor Haile Selassie to Portsmouth in 1954 on HMS Gambia; retired 1957, Lt. RAC Cirencester 1958, then joined family farming company, Frederick Hiam Ltd. An enthusiastic rally driver in his early years he also partook in intrepid expeditions to far flung places, such as Nepal, Alaska and the Amazon rain forest, as well as Transatlantic sailing in 1994. He was a keen fisherman and for years he regularly fished beats on the Wye, Spey and Tweed as well as in Tierra del Fuego. His love of birds was a constant theme throughout his life and he was a great supporter of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the RNLI. He married Rosemary Dewey in 1962, who died in 2018, and is survived by their daughter, a son predeceased.
Timothy( Tim) Miles Farmiloe( B, 48-53); died 22.4.2026. Son of MDBF, brother of MJF. Co Prae, Head of House. New College Oxford 1953-6, 2 Jur 1956, MA; college 1 st XI cricket and football. Book publisher, Macmillan: editor 1957-65, academic director 1965- 99. He published many hundreds of books of most kinds, on one occasion a book every day of the year. His authors included several OWs and a don- Eric Emmet’ s 101 Brain Puzzlers. Senior

Jeremy Neilson Hornsby( G, 48-53); died 24.1.2026. Boxing Colours. RA 1954-6, A / Capt. University College London 1956-9, Phil, Hons; President UCL Union, 1958-9, UCL Squash Team 1957-9( capt), played for London University 1959. Feature writer and foreign correspondent, Daily Express 1959-69; freelance producer for BBC and ITV; numerous broadcasts; writer of short stories, film scripts; librettist: The Pied Piper of Hamelin, David and Goliath, Journey of the Winds; co-author of Divided They Stand; All You Need is Ears; Battered Cherub; One Day I’ ll Forget my Trousers; author of The Story of Inventions and many newspaper and magazine articles. He married Jay Ferguson in 1980, who survives him.
David Arthur Grant Thesiger( C, 48- 53); died 8.11.2025. Son of REKT, 3rd generation of Wykehamists, father to son; half-brother of JST. Trinity Hall Cambridge, Econ and Lang. National service in RAF: Pilot officer. Solicitor Hanne & Co 1965-2001. He was a Jazz aficionado, birdwatcher, bonsai buff, nature and mountain lover and also a staunch European. He married Margaret Thomas in 1963, who died in 2016, and is survived by their 2 daughters.
