The Tribe Report 2. The Communication Channels Issue | Page 3
This issue is devoted to all the many
communication channels we now have open
to us for building employee engagement.
Once upon a time, internal communications
professionals had little more than employee
newsletters and break room bulletin boards to
work with; but today, it’s like being a kid in a
candy store. The spectrum of channels is huge,
and changing every day.
Our cover story addresses the need for this
wide range of channels, if we hope to reach
an employee population that is increasingly
diverse. Those channels are just the envelopes
though. To connect with employees, we also
need meaningful content and a human voice
they can trust.
Our Best Practices article this quarter focuses
on a common issue for many large brands: how
to communicate with employees who aren’t
sitting at a desk in front of a computer all day.
We also have a special Worst Practices
feature this issue, with an overview of some
of the worst mistakes we’ve seen in internal
communications. Hopefully, not a single one
of these will sound familiar to you.
Our Tribe Showcase features an employee
intranet project we recently completed for
Porsche. They have been a Tribe client since
2002, when one of our ongoing projects was a
printed newsletter snail-mailed to dealerships.
At that time, the concept of posting a PDF
version of the newsletter online was considered
slightly cutting edge.
We hope you agree that this is an exciting time
to be working in employee communications
and that you enjoy this second issue of The
Tribe Report. Maybe it will even give you some
ideas for projects you might need Tribe’s help
with in 2012.
