TO STAY
in Dahab longer than a
week or so possessed me
that first week. But a few
days after I was there, I was
taking a walk across a vast
expanse and came upon
this young lady minding
her goats. I sat down with
her and the fact that she
let me take her picture
convinced me to try to
stay as long as I could and
get as many pictures as
possible. I later found out
that two braids from the
forehead wrapped around
the sides of the head
meant she was unmarried.
Married women still pull
the hair up to the top of
the forehead and then
bring it back around, but
flatten it out with long flat
bobby pins.
I found myself addicted
to the wealth of imagery
