that Germany is in a bad place, the Nations are afraid that ethnicists will rise in power, as international
affairs crumble and ethnicism and war are right around the corner. Their fears are later confirmed
by the rise of Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party in Germany,
after the coup d’état in November of 1933. Adolf Hitler is
appointed chancellor of the Weimar Republi c by the President
and rules out of power every communist or socialist party, by
making them resign or arresting them. Hitler’s main beliefs are
hostile and make that obvious in is acceptance speech. He
makes that clear by stating that many “groups” of people like
Communists or Jews must be eliminated, as he believes they are
a disgrace to humanity. As a result, Germany exists the League of Nations, and Hitler’s path to
destruction is clearly open. A directive with solutions is signed by the remaining members, that
purpose a common currency, the promotion of peacekeeping over offensive efforts, through
negotiations and the final blockade of Germany. Secretly they are planning the merging of their
military power so as to be ready against every invasion from the German army.
In the meantime, something’s not right in southwestern
Europe. The Portuguese revolution causes chaos once again,
as people revolt against the Portuguese Prime Minister and
his “Estado Novo”, a regime greatly inspired by
conservative and authoritarian ideologies. The coup was
initially organized be low-ranking officers, who wanted
democratic civil and military reform, however, they soon
found the assistance of the Portuguese people, who began
to flock the streets of Lisbon as soon as the coup broke out. The members of the LoN proposed the
funding of the militias conducting the coup d’état in support of fighting the expansion of
authoritarian regimes throughout Europe.
The crisis doesn’t stop here. Madrid seems to be in flames after
the death of Sanjurio and the rise of Emilio Mola in the north and
Francisco Franco in the south. Franco allied with Nazi Germany
and Fascist Italy and Nationalists, against Republicans with the
support of the Soviet Union, Cuba and Mexico. The USA, the UK
and France are remaining neutral. The LoN except for this time
from Italy comes forth again, condemning the acts of Franco and
supporting the Spanish Republic with an official statement. Furthermore, the member states reform
their armies so as to protect their national borders from authoritarian invasions.
