I know the causes and the side effects, I know the harmfulness that a drink can bring to me. I don’t want to be embarrassed; I don’t want to be stupid; I want to be me, 100% me, not what alcohol will turn me into. I know that in life there is a time for things; when I am 16 I can drive, 18 I can vote, and 21 I can drink. I know the effects of my drinking at this day and age. I won’t risk it, for my brain’s sake. I know the truth about alcohol, and I can’t and I will not ignore it. Society has helped me, it has warned me of the nasty effects that a drink can have. I see it in media- that teen’s fail as they drink. They make it look bad, scary, and unpleasant. This is why I wait, I wait for a time when it is healthier for me to drink.
You can see that everything is getting better. Because teens are being educated about alcohol, there are less alcoholics in the world. Less young people are becoming addicted to alcohol. The number of drunk drivers has decreased: decreasing the 10,228 deaths in 2010. police no longer have to be out giving DUI’s. Domestic violence cases have also decreased dramatically because alcohol played a big role in theses cases. Poverty rates has also gone down because of the people chose not to spend their money on alcohol. There is no longer a need for alcohol rehabs, and organizations that help alcoholics because there are not that many alcoholics, only people who drink safely only on occasions.
Society has become more aware of the issues that alcohol causes. they have chosen to teach us about the real effects of alcohol, which has made a big difference.
(Figure 5)
This picture was drawn and painted by me. It is to represent what society is doing. We are all trapped in society but it slowly opens us and we are realized by their grip. We (bees and butterflies) fly out as we are being realized.
