In a second phase, the material produced was to be used for a
large installation, for which I decided to return to the subject
of a previous idea, a vision I had on the occasion of a Gregorian
conference, during which, sitting in front of a shelf full of books,
I saw an empty book floating in a nebulous space; at first I
had discarded the vision because it seemed annoying.
So the canvases produced during the action painting
performance were reworked: on a large canvas I painted a
floating book, with the Italian words “il libro è vuoto” (“the
book is empty”); the other canvases were reworked into strips
and the text from the Bible was transcribed onto them.
