Mission Possible : Future Streamkeepers Scavenger Hunt
STREAMKEEPERS SPEND A LOT OF TIME EXPLORING THE URBAN WATERSHED . Streamkeepers are the eyes and ears of the creek , venturing out to take photos and document the condition of our natural systems . We love adventures of all kinds , but especially those that involve capturing the beauty of our urban ecosystem . Therefore , we challenge you , future streamkeeper , to walk in our shoes . Your mission , should you choose to accept it , is to venture out , explore the urban ecosystem , and take photos of your adventures in Arlington ’ s Eco-tainment spaces . In other words , you ’ re going on a photo scavenger hunt !
Now , this isn ’ t your normal photo scavenger hunt . You ’ re not going to see clues like “ take a photo of a tree ” or “ take a photo of something shiny .” Nope , not here ! Although those types of hunts are fun too , we have an ulterior motive here . It ’ s all about noticing and appreciating the interconnectedness of wild and human and documenting them in a fun way . We want you to “ find ” and connect with our urban watershed and as a bonus , walk away with EPIC nature photos !
THE MISSION ( how to play ) The challenge is very simple : read and follow the clues on the next page ; identify and travel to the specified location , and take your photo ! Photos may be submitted to : Environmental @ arlingtontx . gov with the subject line “ Streamkeepers .”
THE TREASURE Now , what good is a scavenger hunt if there isn ’ t “ treasure ” for all of the hard work ?
Bragging rights : boast about your victory to friends and family or strangers for that matter . Plus we ’ ll send you a downloadable certificate commemorating your achievement ! Did I mention you ’ ll have the admiration of City ’ s expert Streamkeepers ? Talk about the Holy Grail of bragging rights .
City Swag : The first 20 submittals will receive a City of Arlington branded promotional products gift bag . Who doesn ’ t like a good freebie ?
THE RULES While we love a good scavenger hunt , it is important to set some rules / guidelines . Follow the rules below to keep your photo adventure safe and carefree .
1 . Do not enter private property to take photographs . 2 . Do not enter restricted areas or disturb animal nesting areas .
3 . Do not approach or feed any wild animals . Admiring from afar is just fine .
4 . Safety is key ! Do not stray too far from lighted , paved , or populated areas . Remember you are where the wild things are .
5 . No inappropriate behavior or gestures should be in the photos .
6 . Take the photos yourself , submitting another person ’ s photos as your own is not allowed .
7 . Think out of the box and get creative . Make sure your photos stand out from the rest !
WHAT TO BRING 1 . Required : A fully-charged smartphone or other device with picture taking capabilities . 2 . Water bottle and comfortable shoes for walking . 3 . A copy of this guide with your scavenger hunt clues .
