Small-mouthed Salamander

The Small-mouthed Salamander is the only salamander currently found in Arlington . It likes to hide under logs and comes out at night to eat earthworms and small insects .

Broad-banded Copperhead

The Broad-banded Copperhead is one of several venomous snakes in Texas . Copperheads and Broad-banded Copperheads camouflage especially well in leafy areas . Never handle a venomous snake , as they can still envenomate even if they ’ re dead .

The Peeling Puffball is one of the most commonly found mushrooms in Arlington . The inside of the mushroom is usually filled with spores and the outside will form soft spikes that peel off as it matures . Once mature , the mushroom can release a cloud of spores when disturbed .

Nine-Banded Armadillo

The Nine-Banded Armadillo is the only armadillo species found in North America . Armadillos dig burrows for shelter and once vacated , abandoned burrows are often occupied by other animal species . They also use their long claws to dig for food .
