Thank you, Mr. Pat Sneed
After 26 years of dedication to the MSU Golf Course, Mr. Pat Sneed has offiically retired. This brings an end to an era marked by change. Pat Sneed was a professional and gentleman in the truest since of the term.
The green grass, the maroon shirt, and the gentle southern accent. Everytime you greet Mr. Pat, he responds with his signature, "Oh I am just lovely," or you can get him talking about the greens and he would start by saying, "Well, the real tragedy is mother nature isn't doing us any favors."
Sneed grew up in Tupelo and spent his early years playing golf. His love of the game brought him to a job at Tupelo Country Club. While there, his love of turfgrass management was born. After graduation from high school and a brief stint at Mississippi College in Jackson, Pat enrolled in the Golf and Sports Turf Management at Mississippi State University. Upon graduation from MSU, Sneed headed to New Orleans Country Club in the Assistant Superintendent position. He was not there long and eventually made his way back to Tupelo Country Club.
After 7 years at TCC, Sneed took a position in sunny Florida for another 7 years. It was 1995 and his alma mater came calling. "My wife, Tina, did not want to leave Florida but I knew this opportunity was only going to present itself one time. So, we took a leap of faith and moved back to Mississippi."
