Born with Bilateral Cleft Palate:
Meet My
Exceptional
Son, Christian
>>>>>> Lacey Buchanan
M
y life is definitely what you’d
call exceptional, but maybe
for reasons that are different
than what you’d expect. Exceptional is used today to mean things like
“outstanding” or “unusually good” and my
life is definitely those things, but probably
not in a way you’d expect. It kind of started
with my exceptional son. He is outstanding
and unusually good in every sense of the
word, but he is also an exception. He is the
exception to the rule. The rule was that his
medical condition meant he wouldn’t live,
but he is an exception. The rule was that
“kids like him” wouldn’t have any quality of
life, but he is an exception. The rule was that
Christian was
born with one of
the largest and
most severe forms
of cleft lip and
palate doctors had
ever seen . It was so
severe , in fact, that
it affected not only
his mouth and lips,
but also his face
and eyes.
